Every time I try to bid it says I'm outbidd by a "Proxy bidder" I eventually gave up...

Like eBay, FurBid does proxy bidding: you enter the highest amount you'd be prepared to pay,and then the bidding system automatically bids for you to defeat competing bids, until someone else posts a higher limit than you. In this case YOU were the competing bid, and someone else had posted a high limit that outbid all your counter-bids.
Holy crux, she's amazing. That bidding's already going out of my range, but thank you for the pointer!
