To me it means not being rude about another's beliefs/opinions/preferences just because you don't understand or agree with them. Respect them, not because you share the viewpoint, but because you'd want someone to respect yours.

To let people believe what they believe even if it isn't what you believe. Or think or do or whatever. The words there are interchangeable to fit all of that. Just because I don't like that someone is doing this or that as long as they aren't really hurting anything and causing problems with it it doesn't matter to me.

Accepting those for who they are and giving them the same respect you give others.

And not forcing your views on anyone. Sharing is okay, as long as the other party wants to hear it.

Hmm... For me tolerance is... dunno. I see what is happening around me, or see someone behave in a way I know I would not accept if it were myself - but I just don't pay attention to it. I "tolerate" it, by letting the person in the subject express him/herself, and I don't make a big deal out of it.
I should mention that tolerance =/= total acceptance. It doesn't mean I fully accept what the person does "Oh, it's fine, he's doing it, it's fully okay", but rather just tolerate. Let it be, and don't make a big thing out of it.

To me it's not necessarily accepting everything, but just simply not throwing a fit over something that you find offensive.
Like "Eh, that's not my thing, but whatever, it's cool."

for me tolerance isnt necessarily accepting anything and everything, its learning to live with it even when you dont like it, and learning not to rage when someone is doing something. ill admit i hate things, but ill never piss off someone else because i hate it

To me,it means understanding and accepting different people and not pushing my pov on them and hopefully they won't push their pov on me and we can get along.
Also,I do get nosy and try to learn about other people are like.
I usually keep my mouth shut if I don't have anything good to say.

Everyone has some great points! :) I know sometimes I get some 'different' requests then those I am used too. For me its just being accepting and thinking, "Hey I might not like this, but someone else might." And of course not get all bent out of shape when that does happen. Thus why I will write/draw anything for my fans :) ...well pretty much anything. :)

To me, tolerance is being able to look at others and, despite their views and how they may clash with yours, accepting their right to hold such views. Additionally, it is an acceptance of others' races, creeds, sex, preferences, and lifestyle.

Tolerance is not attacking anyone because of anything they are or do, verbally, physically, mentally or magically.

Respecting (or at least not complaining about) something that you don't like or agree with, but also isn't exactly harmful to anyone.

Taking the time to chill out when you see something that initially irks you, then taking more time to try to understand it. Learning to see the world through the perspective of another.

Also it is an attitude of life which, yes, tolerates things it can't change and focuses on those it can.

As "tolerance" refers to the latin word "tolerare", it does NOT mean, that you have to accept or even like something or someone, but actually that you simply endure it, which is why I can't understand how being tolerant can be such a hard thing to do for many people.

If someone likes something that I don't like and that I cannot understand how they could like it, it doesn't make them a bad person.

Tolerance to me is just dealing with something or not talking about something you don't agree with. Not accepting something but still dealing with it.

Tolerance is being able to withstand or deal with something without have a negative affect on yourself or anyone around you that is my opinion X3

In America during colonial times, European settlers argued whether or not Native Americans had the "tool of reason" and therefore whether or not they were human. One side of the argument was that they indeed were capable of reason and were in fact human, but must be assimilated into European culture. This disdain for foreign customs and culture is equally as reprehensible as suggesting a person is fundamentally inferior or inhuman due to their behavior.

We must not only respect a person's right to live, we must also respect their right to live in a manner of their choice. To steal someone's cultural identity is to bereft them of their personality, their very soul.

It means accepting people with special needs and interests.

For me? Not really caring what someone likes or is like.

Let people fap/listen/play/belive to what they want. But still keeping the right to ignore them if they push it onto you.

Ah, let us take babyfurs as an example. I do not like babyfurs, but I do not want them to stop being babyfurs. I just steer clear.

Tolerance, stop judging about things you don't like.

I take a rather libertarian view of tolerance, mostly not being overly concerned about what anyone does , so long as it doesn't infringe upon anyone's live, liberty, property, or pursuit of happiness without their consent. However, that's not to say that anything at all should be tolerated. Arson, rape, murder, pedophilia, assault, defamation and slander, imprisonment, larceny, vandalism, etc., without honest consent from those concerned. To me, at least, tolerating such heinous acts against others isn't so much tolerance as it is indifference to the undeserved suffering of others.

Maybe I'm wrong on all this, so please do feel free to correct me.

Tolerance to me is a halfway word. We can be "tolerant" but still vote against others rights, like marriage, adoption, and housing and employment discrimination protections. We can be tolerant be still tell individuals that they are born into sin because our dogma says so. We can be tolerant of others but still hold our beliefs higher than beings and their rights.

We have a Tolerant president, but not a accepting one. Notice the wording. That is the problem. Tolernce is a nice halfway step, but it is far from acceptance.

We often tolerate others, but in this day in age where apathy runs as rampant as the money into this country from china, we rarely accept others.

Tolerance to us is affirming and promoting the inherent worth and dignity of each person. It is also working toward the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.

Tolerance is for me...
To hear a statement or see an action from another person equal what he is saying/doing. Thinking about it...maybe try to see the situation out of his eyes and respecting (or at least not complaining about it) what he is doing. Even if I don't like or agree with it. So long he dont harm anyone. And really important not attacking anyone verbally, physically, mentally.
Its difficult to explain for me in english. Iam now buddhist over 12 years and I think many things of the way of thinking (buddhism) is very good for the daily life with my fellow men.
