It's ironic that you posted this journal, bc just today I was thinking the same thing when using my sister's computer (which runs 7) Her firefox freezes up and such just as much as my older laptop running Vista

Firefox seems to be the biggest issue with 7 I've encountered so far. But I've only had it for like two days now. I expect more things to spring up.

Nah. But the text has all gone italicized, the flash plugin crashes regularly, and it keeps asking where the debugger is.

I run XP on my laptop and 98 2nd Ed. on my desktop. I figure I do what needs be done on the older systems until I can't run them anymore and then I upgrade. By the time I get to Vista or 7, they'll have everything worked out.

I like XP. I'm running it on my netbook.

You could always install it on the one that's giving you problems. I think... Sometimes the new hardware doesn't work right with the older software, but you should be good for a while at least. It's not like Windows has Mac-speed turnover or anything.

i dunno if we could with this one. I seem to recall some issues with a Vista machine being able to do that, and I think w7 machines have the same issue.

Hrm. :/ Now that you mention it, I feel like I heard something similar, but I couldn't tell you for sure... If you have the install discs for both XP and 7, you could always try XP and if it doesn't work, go back to 7. That may also fix the issues you're having now (the reinstalling part, not the switching OS's part.)

If I understand correctly, the two OS's are exactly the same system, 7 is just an updated version that is also stripped down of most of its resource-hogging additions.

And errors happen with every operating system, especially when they first come out. Same is true with the service packs that come with them later on. Ever had a machine with Windows XP Service Pack 3? Some programs that were originally designed for XP don't work with Service Pack 3.

It just seems weird that this computer is literally brand new, and right out of the box it's giving us problems. e.e;

I've had loads of problems with HP over the years, and it usually has to do with the preinstalled software (in the Windows 98 SE days, it was the software that came prepackaged in CD-ROM with the computer) having a conflict of some sort with the operating system.

I've had lots of computers over the years, and most have been HP's or Compaq's of some sort or another. My suggestion would be to break out the pocketbook, buy a copy of Windows 7 by itself, (in other words, to not use the recovery option) and download the drivers for your computer from the Internet before installing and burn them to a CD... then back up your data and do a clean install that way. I've found that to be the only effective way to deal with the problems I've had that were caused by how HP/Compaq set up the machines at the factory.

Not saying this will solve all your problems, mind you... just that it's another possibility. It isn't always Microsoft's fault... darn it.

I got Windows 7 on my new laptop originally. I used to run my laptops in dualboot with both XP and Ubuntu installed, I really liked XP. I had issues with 7 too. It would get really sluggish even when the laptop was brand new and I didn't have all my stuff installed yet. Chrome would run better than Firefox (which would crash constantly, only clearing cache would help) but still. I uninstalled Windows alltogether and no longer use dualboot. I might consider it if I can get XP somehow, but there's no need for me at the moment.
I hope you manage to solve everything :( Not sure if Ubuntu is a usable option for you? You could consider getting your pc to run in dualboot for the time being. (I don't know much about computers and can work just fine in Ubuntu, never have issues, tablet works out of the box as do most things.)

It may be possible you got a lemon for a new computer. When I bought my HP a few years ago the first one I got had issues right out of the box. I ended up returning it 3 days later to get a different HP. The main issue I had with vista was it hogged all my resources, it may not be a noticable issue brand new, but when you start installing and running different things you wish you had that extra its hogging.
