Loss

A tragedy occurred in the animal kingdom recently in Zanesville, Ohio. It is about 30 miles from where I live and it still felt close to home and heart. A man released his collection of exotic animals:bears, tigers, lions, monkeys and wolves, before committing suicide. The community's immediate reaction is to shoot and kill these majestic creatures, who were not at fault for their actions. They were acting on instinct, they have never been truly free in their captive lives and as soon as they experience their natural calling they were punished. There was one animal that was a true danger and that was a baboon that was HIV positive and also had rabies. But the others could've been tranquilized humanely and possibly transported to any other zoo in the state. Jack Hannah even said that shooting them was the right thing to do and that surprised me the most because he is a well-know animal lover/supporter. My heart goes out to the animals that didn't have a chance and to those that are still alive and coping. Why must humanity treat their fellow creatures this way? They share our planet with us and as soon as they get in our way apparently the only solution is extermination.
