Ummmmmmmmm, if we can count books I'd say Jim Butcher's books are pretty good, but mostly the Dresden Files. My mind is associating you with fantasy for a reason I can't remember, so Jim Butcher should be even more relevant XD. Although there's no gay in the books to my knowledge, and the main character is very obviously straight.
