Thoughts and Predictions for My Life is Super by Nex Cani...
So, after reading the last chapter of issue 5 of my life is super, I felt like I was grasping at half-forgotten memories about all the characters, so I went back to issue 1 and started reading from the beginning. That took me two weeks, lol. So, here's my thoughts and guesses about the series.
I was wondering when Elliot had switched sides to help the gene stealers, and I believe that happened back in issue 3 when they had captured the former mayor and his bodyguard/lover and imprisoned them in Arsenal's headquarters underground. They miraculously escaped and the offered explanation was a bug in Caleb's phone, and about that time you stop hearing the gene stealers complain about 'the ass' stopping them from observing their experiments. I find it likely that they used Caleb's bugged phone to contact Elliot and make a deal, what kind of deal? Likely a strong, muscled, handsome body with more combative superpowers. This may be why Gwen fused part of his body to the mechsuit, makes it harder to transform if it's more than just flesh and blood.
One odd detail I found was Jacob's tail growing back. Early on there was a good conversation about his missing tail and then sometime in issue 5 we hear descriptions of him wagging his tail. Two ideas: either Nex missed or forgot this detail, or it grew back when his powers expanded after Toronto. Third idea, I missed the sentence or two where it's mentioned.
There were hints early on about where the gene stealers base was, we get to sit in on several explanations about the Thelakosians being liberal with gene modification. There it was mentioned that in the end they were blown up with nuclear weapons, just like Jacob did to them again. So, there is precedent for genetic engineering on the scale of the gene stealers, as well as a possible hint of where general Vernon Washington's tech that the gene stealers want comes from, and where geneheart comes from.
As for Ryan/Arcturus, I find it interesting that Arthur is going to work for a law firm named after him and Abby is going with. I can only assume Nex has something planned for it. While he was used as a red herring for the identity of chimera, it was mentioned that the gene stealers have been in operation for at least 300 years, well before his time. There were also hints that Arty knew David in the first scene that they met. Also, did we ever learn what his last name was?
So why do Ryan, Caleb, and Chimera all have related powers? My theory is that Chimera is their parent, and retrieved the hologram of David and Ryan from his son. The reason Alex/Gnoll was shaken by seeing chimera's true face (if it was his true face) is because he looks like Caleb. Unless there are time travel shenanigans involved, which may be as Jacob explained he found them cheap solutions to hard problems. Either for Nex to tell us that he wouldn't use them or foreshadowing that he would as a solution to a hard problem. I also think he may have been around when Jacob helped the furs cross over to this world as mentions and scenes of him being outside of the geneheart dry up after his confrontation with Jacob. I wonder if his foresight is also obscured by Jacob's presents?
There is a strange parallel between the four horsemen of the apocalypse and the ring. Most depictions of the ring we see have 4 gems and one outside of them. With the history class we sat through about them being explained in great detail the horsemen might be what the gems represent, and then the stranger might be the fur universe's horseman. Or, the ring represents the sources of superpowers: divine, genetic, scientific, and magic; with the outside stranger already being explained as the source of the outsider's powers that seems possible. We know the gene stealers can't grant divine powers, and I don't believe we've seen them grant magic powers. So, it may be possible that they can only grant genetic powers, making chimera the source of those powers. Or it could be that he is the stranger and is granting outsiders powers, or even absorbing the other sources of powers, hence the suggestions that he is partly divine.
There is the question in my mind of how much time is passing in the issues and in between, we start on Caleb's 18th birthday on July 4th and end at the end of February/ beginning of March. While I presume he's still 18 as we saw no other birthday party for him, that's about two thirds of a year. Is this accurate? Maybe, but it's my best guess as we never read the year, and the month and day is infrequently mentioned. To have all of this happen is such a short time, Caleb's life really is just super isn't it?
This one is a wild theory all my own and I only halfway think it could be true. Ashton is Chimera, but the only things making me think that are his 3rd wall breaking drunkenness, his uncannily good advice, and his almost inhuman flexibility, however he is a cat and cats are liquid and everyone's advice is the series is pretty good, except Rhia's.
A wild guess as to how it will end? Sure, I don't mind sticking my foot in my mouth. I'd guess Caleb's final weapon is one of two things: a combination of hair or pieces of his friends and family made into… I don't know, a super suit might be fitting. The second guess is he turns one of chimera's limbs into a powerful weapon, maybe even one that can change shape. I don't think Caleb will kill chimera, that seems like it doesn't fit with how his character has grown. I think he'll talk him out of it and befriend him like Jacob has taught him how to do.
I love this series and it’s so amazing to see it back. Nex, I hope your muse and motivation find you to write issue 6 but even if they don't, thank you so much for giving me weeks’ worth of entertainment of the highest quality. Much like everything you write I find myself sucked into the world and too enamored with it to come back out. You are one of the reasons I write, because you made me inspired to do so.
P.S. Things I would find funny for Jacob to say/do. "Take me to your leader" at General Washington's troops. "What can I say except, you're welcome" maybe while dancing in a grass skirt or stealing a boat. "What do you want me to do, dress in drag and do the hula?" as a lion king reference. Play a rubber chicken as a musical instrument, maybe as fanfare for when general Washington or chimera enters the room.
