a rotator cannon, sort of like a gatling except instead of having 4 or more seperate barrels, each with their own chamber, the rotator cannon has 5 chambers that all spin and feed into one barrel. some advantages to this are that it can take much larger shells, the vulcan equipped on the A-10 tank killers fires 20-25mm shells. the rotator cannon commonly uses 25-35mm shells. another comparison is that, where the vulcan has a fire rate of up to 10,000 rounds a minuite, it takes from 0.5 to a full second for it to spin up to firing speed. the rotator cannon only has a fire rate of up to 2000 rpm, it has no warm up time and can fire the instant the trigger is pulled.

Ah... check your facts please. The GAU-8 fires 30mm shells. It does start firing when the trigger is pulled, but you are correct that the massive barrel assembly takes a bit to spin up to max rpm, which in practice is 3900 rpm (test fires may have exceeded this).

The second picture you linked is of the Mauser BK-27, and, as the name suggests, it fires 27mm rounds.

The BK-27 is an inferior weapon from all performance standpoints, but the GAU-8 is so massive that that precludes installation in all but specially dedicated mountings/platforms. So the GAU-8 is more powerful, but the BK-27 is more useful.

That would make more sense, comparing two fighter-mounted weapons.

Also, I'm not saying the BK-27 is inferior to the GAU-8 as a weapon, just that it is not as powerful as the GAU-8 (i.e. inferior from all performance standpoints, as I stated above). The two are intended for complete different uses; you're never going to shoe-horn a GAU-8 into a fighter, nor are you going to build a dedicated CAS platform around the BK-27.

Got the idea from a newspaper article about some freak "scientists" in america saying that we'd meet our first aliens in 2023 and that they would be feline in nature...made a few sketches on it, though the original si'itians look little like what they are today...this was about 4 years back
