Any attempt of Microsoft to make things easier and simplify the GUI would come up with this comparison. It's eye roll worthy. I can't tell if it's more just general derision at anything Microsoft does or if Windows geeks are just upset that things are made easier.

I didn't find it easier. I'm used to the delicacy and finesse of a quill pen. They're giving me one of those over-sized crayons from kindergarten and expecting me to get on with it.

Think about it this way. Your normal Windows desktop is just a background, some widgets, a start menu, task bar, and lots of icons. This is the same thing except there is no start menu and the icons/widgets have combined their function and can show information before you enter the program. I'm fairly used to Android by now so it's helped me get used to this type of combined functionality.

It's a big change but once you find how much functionality and ease of use is packed into the new UI, I imagine you'll find it an improvement.

They're talking about Win 8 for Desktops/laptops. Not phones.

I say this with a true sense that the reviewers give it a real try. Even without the Metro UI, there's some significant changes to Windows with Win8 like sand boxing built into the OS, the full culmination of patches/updates/security fixes baked into the OS, and more protection from allowing third party apps/drivers from causing problems with the OS.

Without the Metro UI they might have a product. All the power under the bonnet doesn't mean much if they've replaced the dashboard with an etch-a-sketch.

Oh yeah. REALLY glad I got the new machine with 7 on it before this hits.

Time for a mass migration to KDE. Or better yet, time to dump GUI altogether and return to the power of the CLI console.

With some dedication you can do some pretty amazing things with the framebuffer on Linux.

I actually kind of liked Bob. As a GUI, it stunk, but as a prototype for the Sims, it was great.
