Phone News (good and bad)

Ok...so, everyone. You all know how I got my phone Tuesday? Well, I kinda had some issues with it...the biggest being activation. I couldn't get it activated Tuesday night. That was mainly my own fault, since I was hanging out with a few friends...and then I stayed at the apartment of one of them (I've hung around him before so it wasn't really that bad). So, after I woke up yesterday, I tried...and found out that you can't go to a Sprint store to activate a phone, you either have to go online or to the place you purchased from (which, for me, was a retailer in a mall near my house). So, I tried activating by phone, and as I did so, I was told the ESN was locked to another account.
Well, this resulted in a drive to the mall, and a 30 minute wait just to see what the hell went wrong. The phone was direct shipped from a Sprint warehouse, so unless someone activated it and repackaged everything neatly, I doubt it was locked. When they looked it up, it wasn't locked to anything, and it actually showed up on my account. So, by the end of it, the people at the store thought it was just the customer care technician goofing up.
So, phone is activated, and it works. There is only one HUGE problem now...and don't worry, it has nothing to do with my number (that was transferred over to the new phone). This phone has very little progress for being rooted. It's Sprint's version of the LG Optimus Elite. Almost every guide out there is for Virgin Mobile's version of the Elite. Noone has really messed with it, and in fact maybe four days ago, someone found a way to root it, but it's so much more involved than most phones. So...it will probably be months before I can root it.
Why is this a problem? Well, for those unfamiliar about Sprint's services, it is a violation of contract to tether (by USB or wirelessly) unless you pay $20 extra per month. I'm poor, unfortunately..so, when I root my phone, and allow tethering, it actually works and I don't have to pay that fee. But since this phone has just barely been explored in terms of hacking, I'm a bit SOL at the moment. I could try looking at this through my phone, but...let's face it. I can't type nearly as quickly on a phone than I can on a laptop. Especially when the phone is a touchscreen.
Tl;dr: My phone works, but I can't do tethering until I get it rooted, which is currently not possible and won't be for at least a month due to not many people working with it yet. Yeah...I'm not happy...but, at least my phone doesn't lag. And I get internal storage besides the firmware storage (I actually have about 2GB of internal memory, plus my 32GB SD card). So, it's ok...it's not the best phone, but I'll hopefully make some modifications soon...well, as soon as some programmers actually work with it, heh.
Also, because of this, I'll be more active on Google+ and by texting. I'm really sorry guys, I don't mean to do things like this, but...it's kinda how it is right now. I still have to talk to someone about a private stream, heh...oh well.
Love you guys...please take care <3

That sounds like a pain. I didn't get half of it, though. X3 I have a slide-out keypad...The "Swype" software is so bad on here that's preinstalled, I had to give up on typing on the touchscreen. I had to clear the memory twice-daily. But you have to BUY any update, or use a trial version...then buy. Bollocks...I'll use the physical keyboard. My thumbs are too clumsy for the touchpad, anyway...

OP
There is something in settings to switch it to the Android Keyboard instead of Swype...I hated that keyboard with a passion, luckily I was able to get Swiftkey on my new phone. But still...Don't ask me...basically, I can't connect my laptop to my phone, in order to use the data from the phone...unless I want to pay $20. And that's an insane waste of money :/

I dislike the Android keyboard and liked Swype's layout better, lol! XD Swiftkey costs money to get aftermarket.

I didn't pay anything for mine...I got it through the free app of the day from the Amazon appstore :3

You have to sign up and give your email. How much more do they collect? (I'm paranoid about what this big a company might do with my info.) I didn't click...I just looked at their front page.

OP
They only collect more if you actually purchase something...but that's because they have to ship it to your house, heh. They don't do that with apps though, for the free apps it's just click and download

Are they safe / Android approved? Do they spam you once they have your email?

OP
You can opt out of their emails very easily, and they have close to the same amount of apps from Google Play as they do on theirs. The difference is, you can get a free one each day. That's how I got a number of my apps that most normally pay for ^.=.^
