One Time at Band Camp...
I got a ridiculous sunburn everywhere that my sax neckstrap didn't cover, so I have a nice white V on my chest XD Just finished up my week long marching band camp, and I'm very tired and my face and nose are peeling, since I don't use any sunscreen or block. This year, the band has around 157 members, a lot more than last years 125 or so. Just the saxophone section grew from 16 to 28! We marched against the heat, the rain, and the ever present onslaught of exhaustion. Every night a section would introduce themselves, saying their name, major, hometown, and an interesting fact. Some people had some really cool stories, and our motto became shouting "Show us!". There are a lot of interesting people in band, from webbed toes to ridiculous noises, to crazy toungue rolling, to being 6' 9" tall. Many in the band were very strong competitors in track events. To quote my conductor, "Not only are we a huge band, we can probably kick a lot of other bands' butts"
This year, our first theme is 2012, where we kinda make fun of the whole end of the world theory. Our songs are "Lullaby" (a soft, peaceful song) that leads directly into "Psycho (Prelude)" (a fast, sporadic, awesome song). Then "It's the End of the World As We Know It" (we'll be singing/shouting a verse!). Then "Thriller" (we get to do some of the dance :D) Then "Mars: The Bringer of War" (a very powerful, intense song. The second shows theme is Dancing 'Til the End of the World. We'll be playing "Dancing Machine", "Disco Inferno", "Thriller" (again :D), and "Safety Dance". These songs are a lot trickier musically, but I'm sure it'll work out.
I'm enrolled in 18 credits this semester. Should be a pretty good semester, most of my classes are relevant for my major. I'll also be in Swing Dance Club and Pre-Vet Club. My classes are:
Basic Drawing
Marching Band
Symphony Band
BioQuest (a BS class that's for bio majors that don't know what they want to do)
Cell Biology
Genetics
Organic Chemistry (with a teacher with a heavy accent and that can't teach XO)
Got a bit of work done on my first story, though not nearly as much as I had hoped over the summer. I do have a few days before school begins, so I'm hoping I can get a little more done. I'll be commissioning
sketchpadman soon for a ref sheet or two. Now I'm just going to go to the end of band camp party, and hide indoors for a few days. Once this sunburn goes away, I'll have the sexiest tan around XD

OP
And that's not even counting the blisters or having to hold up the saxophone at 90 degrees! But it is all well worth the effort to see the show come together
