Hey, congratulations. Graduating is a nifty experience. Is that a four-year degree? Does your system even compare easily to the US system?

I honestly doubt it does, but this was a special school all in itself, which basically offered both a gymnasiums graduation and a diploma in graphic art

That sounds roughly-equivalent to a 4-year degree, which is often started by folks who've completed their 12th year of mandatory education (primary, 1st through approximately 5th grade, ages 6-10 or so, and then secondary, ~6th through 12th grade, ages 11-17/18). Basically, you spend from 17/18 - 21/22 getting a 'four-year-degree,' a Bachelor's of something or other (I, for example, got my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in December). With a Bachelor's it's expected you can go out and get a job of some sort, generally kinda white-collar. It's supposed to give you a grounding and the tools and specialization you need to go out and 'join the workforce' as more than just a labor grunt. Lotta folks get them, these days. 'Adult Life' doesn't really seem to start until afterwards, 'cause it's often then that a person becomes financially independent of one's parents.

How's what you have compare?

I guess it's that, mixed with school.

What this school does is give you normal school education until graduation and simultaneously an education in graphic art and design etc.
Usually school of upper grade would take 4 years, the first of which is the compulsory 9th year you have to complete in order to be allowed to leave school. You can enter this school if you have completed your 8th yearm and it's a 5 year course, so in the end, you've been through 13 years of school (asuming you didn't fail a year)

So I suppose it's what you'e thinking of, just during the last four (five) years of school.
