Enlarge your downtime!

The rain just falls off me, the tears just fall off me..
Y'know, I actually work with sites and databases and stuff. And I don't really see any good reason our glorious administrators couldn't write a replication engine for FA. So that there, like, wouldn't be any downtime. Any.
C'mon already! How many people are in here? Ten, twenty thousand? And two whole days of downtime for moving to a new server?
Tweakers and tuners, ugh..

FA+

that's the issue imho
Problems with FA were mostly hardware related then. No hardware redundancy. No use running anything on the hardware FA has when it had the tendency to crash with a probability of data loss. And it did in the end, RAID card burned down - but the information was safely transferred.
When you have one unstable server there isn't much you can do. *shrug* And I too work with databases and sites and stuff :)
