I should not just Bitch
Likely most of you do not read this, I had like 2 people respond to my "rant" (thank you). But it occurred to me I should not just Bitch... So here are some thoughts i had on role playing, writing and creativity.
The first things I'd say today is...if your going to role play ACCEPT THE BAD with the good. What makes characters, Like Ebonyleopard's "Phenix" interesting is not the totally amazing things they CAN do...but rather the human intrigue of how they deal with the things they CAN'T do.
Even SUPERMAN HAD to have Kryptonite, otherwise he just walks in and bashes the bad guy...ho hum.
So lets take for example Gender transformation. Everyone wants to do it for teh SEX...well hey, if you want to do a role play with me being transformed into ANYTHING (gender or species) then let me EXPERIENCE it...
You may not LIKE pregnancy, but hey teh threat of 9 months of morning sickness, sore backs and labor pains, (for a GUY IRL) puts a whole new spin on being so free with your body. You want a contraceptive? Deal with the high blood pressure, hot flashes, etc...
Species? hey it woudl be AWESOME to be a HORSE...but keep in mind a broken leg is fatal...
thats what attracts me, discovering and considering things from a POV I never thought of before. Hey I am a horse..but DANG that Steak smells good (or does it?) what happens to equine stomachs?

By the way how ARE you? I could sure use some positive karma, so if you have any spirits who like you, ask them to send me a bit?
And while the trope "Magic A is Magic A" is pretty strong, there are loopholes and exceptions, especially for "rule of (funny/sexy/scary/drama)" which is how physics can be tortured until it breaks in fiction and no one cares.
#1 Not contrived'
and
#2 are not OVER done
Nail on the head, Instant gratification is it, with now clue how good it could REALLY be with just a LITTLE set up. I am a 2nd AD&D myself. Why is there no place for us old timers to get together.... Do we have to let in Grammar Nazis?
They've forgotten there is an art to it. Yiffing or not it's still cooperative storytelling.
It is so frustrating that people want to "Be a pony" but have absolutely NO idea how a pony would have to live, how many use scent, use the extended eye sight (but less acuity) that equines have....
The other 20% is written around the author’s personal fantasy world where no attempt is made by the author to explain that world’s foundations or internal logic to the reader.
On top of that is the unanswered question in furry literature of ‘why does this story have to be anthropomorphic’ to work?’ Are the characters merely human beings, you and me, dressed up in fursuits acting in every way as humans but “masked“ in our actions by those suits and heads?
Likewise, anthropomorphism (i.e., part human part animal) has to be accepted by role-players as part of their character’s play.
In D&D play, the players have to list the plus and minus percentages of success in using their animal characteristics -- sight, smell, hearing. And when it comes to sex, how susceptible are they to abandoning their immediate goals when confronted with the scent of a suitable-gendered mate “in heat” or “in rut”?
