If I may suggest centaurs? Or perhaps a cat-faced manticore... I think either would look good in your style.

A centaur would certainly be an interesting challenge.
What would a cat-faced manticore involve? Just a feline with scorpion tail and bird wings?

Something like that, it is up to you. Although I can understand if you don't wish to draw a creature which tends to have some vague and varying descriptions.

Umm... What I think of is the animals which are similar but different.

Different kinds of bears (black vs grizzly vs polar) which are often drawn the same way... Especially, the face...

River otter vs sea otter...

Different kinds of seals/walrus...

Rat/mouse...

And... ROFL... Great panda (which is a bear) vs red panda (which is not, but everyone seems to confuse them :)

(Seriously, though, I have a theory that Ursa Minor is a red panda -- http://www.constellationsofwords.co...../UrsaMinor.jpg -- and I even drew her as such.)

I love red pandas, so I should definitely draw one of them!
The idea of contrasting the differences in otherwise similar seeming species is a good one. I'll probably do all the pairs you listed.

I did a kangaroo for a commission not long ago. Thylacine is a good one though.

I haven't seen you draw a hyena, but that wouldn't be much of a challenge for you; the fur pattern is too similar to a snow liopard.

I drew badgers at the last art jam that we had in the city. Same time as Barclay did.

I was probably to focussed on my own drawings at the time to notice.
