Despite my involvement

in comics, I am rarely struck by one. This is an exception. As I was reading through the xkcd archives, I came across this little gem.

While I was taken aback by the enduring nature of some of these most urgent arguments it took me but a short time to realize that however enduring the argument may be, thereby suggesting the urgency implied in the argument is ephemeral... tis not so.
It is simply that certain prized institutions have always been prized, and their preservation has always been of paramount importance to the socially and civilly aware. That someone a hundred years ago or more mourned the desecration and destruction of an institution that I hold dear ties me as a conservative more strongly with my forebears. It in no way invites me to surrender to the same destruction they fought so vigorously, for no better reason than that the fight is a surprisingly old one.

irony... ? :- ) )
