Fear

When I was a kid, my mother was OBSESSED with scary films. Nearly every week she'd drop by blockbuster/video world/what have you, and pick up one or two VHS (my age is showing) horror movies. I was one of three children, and of those three I was the only one who enjoyed watching scary movies (even my father hated them), thus my mom was thrilled to have someone to finally share them with.
When she picked me up from school she'd eagerly show me what the movie of the week was; hellraiser, texas chainsaw, the hills have eyes, the last house on the left, blair witch, the amityville horror, the exorcist, psycho, and/or any of thousands of terrible b-movies (I'm looking at you, early Peter Jackson (though those are arguably AMAZING terrible b-movies)).
Anyway, I watched those movies like a pro. Before I was 12 I had seen most of the big ones (and whatever garbage was currently in theaters), and was never phased by them. None were scary, they were all just good fun.
But then my life was changed, the time I saw THAT movie, the movie that scared the living daylights out of me
I was scared for weeks afterward
I'm talking, of course, about the Super Mario Brothers movie.
I, being the little dumbass I was, saw that movie on the shelf at video world when I was about 8 or so, and thought to myself "Awesome! Live action Mario, what could go wrong?"
When Toad was transformed into a Goomba, that scared the shit out of me. The thought of someone being forcibly restrained, being 'de-evolved' and being forced to live the rest of their life some hideous abomination of flesh, an unwitting wretch mindlessly obeying its master, freaked me the fuck out. It's the first time I remember sleeping in my parents bed for protection, I didn't want to be turned into a goomba (refer to the aforementioned 'dumbass' remark)
What movie scared the hell out of you?

Specifically, the scene where HAL9000 shuts off the life support for the crew in cryostasis. There's no heroism, no hope, no hero trying to stop it or even dimly aware of it.
It's just you, watching HAL slowly committing mass murder, watching their life-signs fade away before your eyes, and completely helpless to do anything.
But a scene like that? There's no vindication, no glamor or spectacle. Just Stanley Kubrick making you feel desperate, helpless, and alone.
sorry about flubbing the comment placement, my coffee machine broke this morning.
As for me, Alien/Aliens. I think I watched a bit of it when I was at a younger age. I developed a sort of fear for Aliens, nothing that kept me up at night or anything, but even to this day I FUCKING HATE Xenomorphs (I should really refer to them as) I do however love the old Aliens movies and (to a small degree) the AvP movies. Cause I do love the concept, it works well in a movie. And games. Not in my mind. Fuck Xenomorphs >.<
Forgive me if this is out of line Gravi but if you do want to see the extent of me fighting my fear / aka shitting my pants. I do have a full play-through of the Human Campign in AvP on my youtube channel. If I entertain others, meh it's worth it. ^^;

I kid of course, in fact EVERYONE WATCH THIS NOW
But yes, I think ANYTHING by Giger is potent nightmare fuel (ESPECIALLY for a child! Dear god lol)
Scary movie for me was… uhm… Casper the Ghost!! I watched that while I was 3-4, and it scared me when they showed that scene where the trio's did their big scary faces, and then that other scene where the guy's face changes in the mirror and freaks him out! xD
That nearly ruined the film for me as a child XD

It's kind of terrifying for a kids movie.
