My new fursuit... - Walmart Outing...
Well, as described in my recent posts it is snowing here, it is winter time, and well being bored and not having worn my suit much I wanted to wear it. So wear it I did!
I needed a few things anyways. I've been trying out wearing a workout suit under the fursuit to help contain the water, which seems to do a decent job (It's not like it will retain heat any more than a full suit!!). With the workout suit on I can feel after an hour or so the sweat collecting, but that's fine it evenly distributes at my legs or around my waist (what fun). I'm not sure if this is the best method, but checking the suit afterwards I found almost no wet spots, most spots I think were from the snow and not from me (course they get a touchup cleaning anyways).
So the fun part. Immediately at arriving at walmart and walking through the parking lot, I know I could be seen quite well, and walking in there were friendly smiles from seemingly everyone. I think everyone knows I did it out of boredom. The self-checkout employee got a hug, and a couple kids along with a few pictures by parents.
It seems while I was out a few of the kids were terrified of me (along with our cats), why? I'm a big cuddly Guy. But it seems it isn't to be, not even with fun antics of biting on product cases, or hiding behind corners and then peeking to see the children looking at me oddly, or trying to say hello and converse with the M&M stand.
There were however several instances where once the kids see you and are obviously curious that approaching in a playful and harmless manner got them to want a hug, course offering high-fives seems to be universally acceptable and understood by the parents who then explain what to do.
I'm thinking I might end up getting a squeaking accessory, since I don't think I need to be talking, but squeaking or chipping might just add character without adding words that are muffled. We'll see, got some on order and I'll see what seems to fit the character.
There was a minor mishap however, while there I could feel my tail getting lower and lower, and due to it's construction (to be separate so I can do a partial, at my request so it could be my mistake), I went to the restroom to fix it. Seems while tightening the belt it tore and barely held together enough to finish the day, seems I'll have to get that fixed. (The belt's super-simpler so I just need to pull out the sowing machine in the corner).
So I guess experiences learned:
You get hot fast, however this is the body's natural reaction to being covered, after having it on me over half an hour my body began to adjust to it and I wasn't sure if I was hot anymore, the sweat on the other hand collecting at my elbows (in the workout suit) was more distracting than anything else, and I'll see if I can get that better controlled/contained. I wonder if there's a way to collect it and remove it without having to remove parts or the whole suit, then it can remain dry all the time externally while I'm active. Calls for experimentation...
You get thirsty immediately. Upon getting fully dressed (taking 10 minutes or so) I wanted to drink water cold; I might try having a camel-back either on or under the suit, if it's over I'll have to make it obvious I'm using it, while if it's under it can be invisible (probably).
Third, your vision is weird. First time wearing the suit I couldn't see, but the second time I adapted quickly, however once the head is off I found my eyes trying to cross oddly and I have trouble going back to viewing the world normally, I guess it's trying to ignore that big middle section between my nose where my vision is lost. Hmmm...
So I guess for other suiters who read this:
Is having the sweatsuit under a good idea?
If not why, and what other options would you suggest?
What methods do you have to keep cool?
What things/actions should I begin doing while suited up? What seems to get the most amusement from viewers?
