A Huge Change (for teh better for once)
Been keeping rather quiet about this big news so that I wouldn't jinx myself or get my hopes up but hey here's what happened.
The end of February they fired the supply/PPE purchasing agent at my company, the following Monday I was approached by the plant manager asking if I was interested in filling his position, I was the one that built both databases that both purchasing agents use on a daily basis so the raw material purchaser had put my name in as a suggestion for hiring from within the company. There were of course pros and cons to me in the job, like not having any formal training in the actual position or having any education in purchasing in general. But I submitted my application that Monday.
Tuesday I received word that I would need to send in a resume, which meant my application was being taken seriously by HR and by corporate. Banged one out on my lunch break (first one I've written since college) and turned it in to the plant manager for his review. Wednesday I had got no feed back about how good or bad the resume was so at the end of the day I sent a text to him asking if I would be called in for an interview, luckily he said yes.
Thursday I met with the current purchasing agent (who I had trained on my databases and been in touch with since he was hired back in January) sat with him for my first interview. Went over things that were expected of me, asked those 'what if' questions and such. Was supposed to take only 30 minutes lasted nearly an hour. As I was leaving I was told that it was a salary position ranging from $45K to $70K a year and that with my lack of formal training I would most likely start at the bottom end of the pay. Still higher then my hourly base pay but under what I actually made last year working 50 to 60 hour work weeks.
Friday I was called into the HR office for my second interview. This was normally the phone screening interview but since I already worked fr the company it was just easier to call me into his office and talk face to face. Out of all the interviews I did for the position I actually think this was the worst one for me since he kept hammering on my lack of experience in the purchasing field (I've worked shipping/receiving for 8 years starting as a grunt and working up to he supervisor position) Whole thing lasted 50 minutes during a busy part of my work day >.<
Saturday I was called in for my third interview with the plant manager. By far one of the easier ones since he had been pushing for me to actually get the position knowing my work ethics, skills, attendance, and such. Sat with him for about 45 minutes before he said if it came down to me and one other person he would pick me (then said he wasn't supposed to tell me that)
This week I heard little about the position, except for my boss making subtle digs and attempts to keep me from leaving the department. Monday I found out the QC supervisor was quitting and today was going to be his last day (this comes into play later) Tuesday I was called into the department head's office for a fourth interview and a 'brain storming' session about what would be expected, what was realistically going to happen for me and all that fun stuff. 5 minute meeting lasted 30 minutes >.< again these things always seemed to happen during the busy part of the day.
Wednesday I was asked to go back onto the safety committee (got off it for a whole 5 months) so yay more work for me to do if I get the purchasing job or not. Thursday I was approached by the QC manager about taking the QC supervisor job, I've never had so many people asking me if I wanted to fill in for so many different positions before. I had to start weighing out the options what was best for me, my life and such. Had a fifth interview this time with HR again going over things like where I'd fit best, who I wanted to work for, and what would be the best as a career move for me. I kept leaning towards the purchasing job (which they upped the offered salary by $10K a year) because of it being a good career move for me in the long run.
Thursday afternoon I had a call from the plant manager saying that I would have my contract letter for the purchasing position on my desk Friday (today) with the offer of $55K a year (cause they wanted to encourage me to go into purchasing more then QC) 5 sick days a year, and 3 weeks vacation time. It's good to see that I'm being recognized as a valued member of the company finally, I know I'm walking into a hell of mess left from the last guy but I have confidence that I can handle it and make the job my own.
