Female circumcision slowly on the rise in the USA

"I am he as you are he and you are me and we are all together...
I saw AMillionGods on FreeThoughtBlogs share this, http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/h.....ise-u-s-n66226 This news story is pretty scary.
AMG also responded to a website defending the "benefits" of female circumcision. If you read the news article above, it explains that depending on how severe the cutting is, FGM can cause pain and complications for years after the procedure. What possible benefits could there be to performing it? According to this website (note: the author of this site is clearly on the fringe. Elsewhere he proscribes the death penalty for gay people and at one time had an article on whether eating mermaids is ok),
It takes away excessive libido from women
It prevents unpleasant odours which result from foul secretions beneath the prepuce.
It reduces the incidence of urinary tract infections
It reduces the incidence of infections of the reproductive system.
Hmmm... reduces sexual libido, prevents foul body smells (nevermind you can clean the area), reduces the risk of infections... do any of these reasons sound familiar at all?
