As a military equivalent OSHA technician, I would recommend contacting OSHA concerning ergonomic hazards for your work place. If anyone can help you, it's probably them.

I'll check it out- when I applied to the job I said I COULD do the work (lift 30 lbs etc.) so if I can't do that NOW I am afraid that I'll violate some contractual obligation to my work or some crap like that

They can't fire you for a work-related injury. Lay you off with disability maybe, but I don't know all the particulars and laws. Either way, what I *do* know is that they can't leave you hanging if you got hurt on the clock doing work-related things.

yeah- heh my dad is a workers compensation lawyer and my room mate is a physical therapist who treats people on disability - both are telling me that THAT is a bad direction to go if I don't have to

I know how it is. I work a deli and I have so sometimes spend a full 8 hours slicing. it can fuck up your shoulder. we have automated slicers now but the old method is so ingrained in me that I can't catch the slices. plus the standing works the back in all the wrong ways, even with the anti-faitgue mats.
