Only about Lovelle this time
Not really enjoying much writing another journal for almost the same thing that was in the previous entry I wrote a few days ago, but it is not about Laurund anymore because she has been staying at home in the big cage with the other rats for more than a week now, and she seems all fine being back living with all of them.
I'm just making a new journal because this time it's only about Lovelle who is still not safe, though, she is not in danger like she was about two weeks ago now.
Her breathing problem is almost all fixed (veterinarian words) but she became very skinny, way too thin for a rat. And we (the veterinarian and myself) have no clue why she is like that. She went from 290g to 220g, and then just got 5g recently. I can see her eating, not so much a few days ago, more recently, but it is not making her getting some more weight.
She has energy to climb the cage since she has been put back with the other rats too, as she was constantly looking to get there (she was alone in a smaller and more peaceful cage, in case whatever she had may be contagious). Though, the first thing she did once back in that cage was to desesperately want to get out of it ...
I still left her there, under my watching of course, and now, everything has been back to what it was before, they all sleep together and they are not running after each other.
So now, the only problem is that she is too thin and it's not anything safe for such a little animal. I'm doing what I can to give her some food she may like, at least to get some weight back. And in the mean time, I have to be careful to not give anything too fat otherwise it's not gonna help her at all (she may get weight but bad weight).
That's where I am with her. At least, she can now breath correctly again.
I am just copy/paste everything that was written about her in my previous journal and add the part I forgot to put there since then.
And just like in the previous journal, if you wanna help me with all the charges and bills about that, there is a link in the end of this message to find a Paypal button. I'm sorry to kinda ask again for help but sadly, there is not much I can in my current situation.
Thanks for reading me and thanks for any kind of help you could give (whether it's sharing the journal, spreading the words or donating even a little something).
[EDIT - 20/03/2015 16:45 CET]
No lose nor win of weight today, she's still at 225g. So not good but not bad either. She will be safe from needles for the whole weekend this time (not just only Sunday) and we will see how she is by Monday, hopefully with some more weight too.
[EDIT - 19/03/2015 17:30 CET]
Finally ! This is not a huge victory but she finally got some lil' weight as going from 220g to 225g. While it is really really small, it is still a good sign. We can just hope that she is going this way, even slowly. Of course, just like any other day, she still got her medicines, but they may stop soon as she is looking being all fine with the breathing now.
[EDIT - 18/03/2015 14:00 CET]
Lovelle has reached some critical points being only 220g big (that's way too low for a rat like her). This is really bothering me and the veterinarian too but there is not much we can do, even less as I am seeing her eating and drinking, so it's strange that she is not even staying at the same weight but still losing some.
[EDIT - 17/03/2015 12:00 CET]
Not much to say as days after days, she is still losing some more weight while still looking at least ok for the rest. I've been proposed something to give her that is rich and could help her getting some more weight but it's really expensive for what I have left for the month so I will have to find something else and just keep this option as the really final one if nothing else works.
[EDIT - 16/03/2015 17:15 CET]
It is now a noticeable sign that she is losing weight, too much and too fast. This is nothing good nor healthy for such a little animal. Again, she got her medicines (and she starts to really not like needles, at least, she is showing some vigor about wanting to escape the veterinarian's hands to avoid getting "shot").
[EDIT - 14/03/2015 11:45 CET]
I met the other veterinarian of the clinic today, but he is working with the one I've seen from the very start (about Laurund). He even showed me a little thing I can do alone to check if Lovelle is breathing correctly or not. With that, she got her medicines shot again and will be all safe from needles till next Monday.
[EDIT - 13/03/2015 16:00 CET]
New visit and new injections of medicines to Lovelle. One thing is sure, it's that she really does not like it at all. But at the same time, her reactions to the needle proove she is getting better, because Monday she was not reacting at all, just fighting to just breath. So yes, there is now a "much better" sign.
Another visit is scheduled tomorrow then she will have the whole Sunday to rest. A visit on Monday afternoon is already scheduled, it could be the last one for her getting medicines, and then will start the checking time just to see if she's still going ok etc etc ...
[EDIT - 12/03/2015 16:30 CET]
This was the last visit for Laurund since she has been healing pretty well from her last surgery (to clean the second abcess she had) and her wound is almost gone).
About Lovelle, she's not completely safe from whatever she is having, but there is one thing sure now, it is an illness, kinda why the medicines are capable to help her (I mean it is nothing fatal and impossible to "fix"). Of course, she is still not safe for now as she is still breathing with some difficulties but at the same time, she looks like feeling a lot better than last Monday. She is eating and drinking more (she's still very thin, too thin, she's slowly getting some weight little by little). She also made a big mess in the small cage she's currently in, this being a sign that she is making herself comfy and then a sign of well being (or at least, better being).
Next visit to the veterinary clinic is scheduled tomorrow to go on the treatment and give her the same medicine to make sure she is still having the correct help to get even better.
[EDIT - 11/03/2015 14:30 CET]
Lovelle is still doing the best she can to fight and stay alive. At least, this is what I'm seeing from what she is doing and how she is doing. She is showing some more signs of getting better little by little, without being enough to say she is going to be safe. It's really painful to see her like that, but she is showing courage to get better so I have to help her the best I can and take care of her the best I can too.
Another visit to the veterinary clinic is scheduled tomorrow, to check if she is going better and decide what to do next, and also to check Laurund which's wound is healing pretty well (if ever there is no sign of problem, this might be her last visit).
[EDIT - 10/03/2015 12:15 CET]
Laurund got her quotidian shot of medicines and it seems her wound is healing pretty well. She might see the veterinarian next Thursday and if all goes well, it could all done for her.
Now about Lovelle, she has been in severe distress all night long, not sleeping nor eating nor drinking anything. Her case was pretty settled and there was no good issue to see for her. Then I tried to give her some water with a syringe (without the needle) directly in her mouth. She barely took a few drops, still breathing with a lot of difficulties.
Though, a little after putting her back in a cage, she started to eat or at least to try to as it's not that easy when constantly breathing mouth wide open. She still tried. Then, at the veterinary clinic, she started moving a little more vigorously and even cleaning herself a little (which is a sign of health of a rat, if they don't do it at all, it means they are down or ill).
So, the little one is trying her best to fight bravely and to recover, and then it was not possible to stop her like that. She's not safe at this point, and even far from it, but she is showing signs that she does not want to give up and I want to give her that chance. I'm really watching her, trying to get her warm, not feeling all alone (since whatever she may have can be contagious so she's alone in a smaller cage).
Time will tell if ever it was the right choice or not, but so far, she is the one showing that it's not the end yet. And I want to trust her badly.
With that said, I'm sorry to have to do this again but all those medicines and visits to the veterinary clinic have reached a high point in my financial possibilities and even if all is already paid, it's putting me in trouble for the rest of the month. I'm not feeling any good asking for help again, even more as I got pretty nice one for Laurund at the end of January. Though, if you have any little bit left and would be ok to donate, then please do so as it will help me a lot to get food for the month. It's totally fine if you can't or even don't really want to, I understand just fine. If you can spread the message, that would be nice too.
In any case, I want to say thank you again for all the person who helped me since those troubles started back in January.
THANK YOU A LOT !
