Long Distance Relationship?

So recently I finally confessed to a guy whom I met from skype half a year ago. He and I lived far away from each other, like, countries, and he's probably reading this journal~
The point is, Generally people say that LDR (Long Distance Relationship) is never work out. I also believe that it's hard to maintain LDR. I've seen many LDR couple break up and fall apart. I don't want to lost it. I want this relationship to be the one, and the only one.
So the simplest question: What should I do? A little bit more complex question: What should I do to prepare for it in order to maintain this relationship? I mean, I never have any experience so I think I might need some guidance. Just a little advice is appreciated, thank you in advance.
