Gaming removing monitor quality?
16 years ago
I so need to replace my old 19-inch CRT monitor, been needing to do it for ages now.
Being stuck at 1024x768 at 72hz is nasty on my eyes, and yes it's as high as it'll go... even though it's supposed to support bigger resolutions.
Now I was thinking i'd just go into a store, pick out a good LCD monitor based on specs and all would be better, right?
Nope. Seems it's still not the case when you look into it a bit closely...
Problem for me is the market is flooded with nothing but TN-based displays, which apparently are not suited for artwork as they don't do color well.
The same blue on the top-left is noticeably different from the bottom-right being one example i've noticed from some i've physically seen so far.
Alas consumers just don't seem to care about color quality-accuracy anymore, it's all only about how "fast" the refresh rate is. -_-
Read about those non-TN based displays available such as those by LaCie which are supposed to do color better, but goddess the cost... I simply don't have thousands in spare US dollars for something that fancy... -faints- O_O

You, the owner, have to color calibrate useing the monitor itself, as well as the what ever color cal comes with your video, either onboard the main board, or on a stand alone card.
They do make an electronic eye tool, thats USB, that uses a color cal software to correctly color cal your monitor/video properly, it was on sale not too long ago for like $45.
I'm not looking for true 100% accuracy like the professionals need for printing where calibration is also a must-have, but just one that'll have a good clean even display and like you said can be adjusted/calibrated if need be. ^^
Hard for me to ask and learn all this when even the computer stores themselves don't know much about these things either. ^^;
Honestly my current CRT isn't callibrated as far as I know, the only thing set on it is the 6500k color setting. Seems nice for me so that's all I've ever done with it. ^^;
That USB stick you mentioned sounds expensive (guessing that's $90+ NZ) but may be handy, suppose i'll have to look into it. ^^
One thing I do know though is i'll lose some usable areas of my tablet, since everythings all widescreen now. X3
Thanks for the helpful advice, much appriciated. ^_^

Also, my monitor can be either sRGB, 6500k, 9300k(current) or a custom setting. :>
Expensive lil thing that appears to be, that's about $178 over here as a guess after US-NZ currency conversion. ^^
I guess so, all I do know is that they rise the prices like CRAZY and have it in a spot were only few can buy but more for only the rich people, no? =/
They are expensive because they are aimed/geared at professionals, much like photoshop as an example. I'm certainly no professional that's for sure, so it'd probably be an overkill for me. XD
There are cheaper ones (and getting cheaper too) out there obviously I should aim for instead, but the tricky part is finding a suitable one... somehow since there are not many on display to check out. ^-^
Finding cheap one is easy but finding the RIGHT one is even harder, no? ^_^; They just dont put out good cheap ones enough for us to choose from for us, don't you agree, Shiyosha? =3
Of course picking a good one all comes down to experence of using/viewing it, going just by the specs isn't enough. ^^
Um... I guess this is a silly question but what is " going by the specs" mean or just "specs"???
The HP one I re-checked out had a bright top and dark bottom if it was looked from slightly upwards, physically examining one's the primary way to check. ^^
That sound really hard stuff to know/understand (you sure know alot of stuff, you must be really smart! X3), I'm not sure if heard stuff like this before, maybe, I think. =3
Thank for clearing some stuff up. ^_^ *hug*
26" may be overkill for me, was really aiming for something like a 19" at least. ^^
Thanks, i'll have to google that model up and see what it's like. ^_^
