Samsung Gear VR headset review
So finally the day came when my mom's VR headset came in, she had recently got a Samsung Galaxy S7 and was part of a deal if you get the phone you get the headset for free. She didn't want it so she gave it to me, what luck am I right?
I have also mess around with Google Cardboard, which was a fun little experience for little cost. But this device is absolutely fun from the first minute of use.
The first thing I tried out is trying out the VR photo viewer to start out, and it was awesome. They had photos from Ancient Egyptian Monuments to the Cupola Module on the International Space Station. The display was crystal clear even though it was being viewed on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
I browsed the market for the device while using it, the touchpad on the side of the headset is very user friendly, even though using the virtual keyboard in the VR internet browser is a little wonky to use since there's no physical feedback, even checked out FA on it.
The last feature I tried on it was a VR music player, the best way that I could describe it is when you'd listen to music on a PC and on Windows Media Player and you had all of the effects on it that was in time with the music, it was like that except it was in a 3D environment, with the right music it is awesome to look around and watch the environment pulse and change colors in time with your song.
So my final verdict on the Samsung Gear VR headset is this: If you're interested in Virtual Reality but don't want to drop the thousands of dollars on a Oculus Rift or HTC Vive and a capable computer and have a newer Samsung Galaxy this is a great product to use.
