People just want to post their artwork as a lower category so it gets more potential views.
The "mature" section covers mature themes, not just nudity. Partial nudity, suggestive poses, bondage and pet-play are all mature.
Adult is for outright porn.

We don't need two general options, we have mature.

well the mods need to step up and actually enforce it then, none of this "well technically..." kind of shit

I have found that if i report something, it will be delt with.
The problem is the community in my experience, people not reporting things, people purposefully using borderline or rule breaking content without caring for the website etc etc.

On the other hand... its hard to use the whole "can my kid look at it" argument here... there would need to be drastic changes to make this website SFW, id never bring my child here. Would need like, an approval system for every post, avatar, journal, advert etc before it can be marked SFW,

The thing is, artists who mark blantant mature stuff do it to get those extra views, without considering the people who just don't want to see that. I'm hoping that when FA updates the tag system, they'll update the rating system too.

I dunno, I always get tons more views and comments on submissions marked adult than mature and general combined.

That might also be because of the "Oo, Porn!" Kinda reaction. But people like to try to push the "Oo, kinda basically porn!" onto the general audience to lure all of the younger folks on the site into looking at it.

But to my knowledge, there is only one single person in charge of enforcing it, and can't catch everything without people flagging stuff... which most people don't do. D:

I don't support it, but I do understand the motivation. Rating something as "mature" will slash the potential audience of an image. So if you can get away with rating something questionable as general then people are going to do it.

Maybe like...general>sfw>mature>adult?

I dont think there needs to be 2 general ratings just need more enforcement from the community side, same by the way goes for tagging art.
