NOT "Pokemon Days" Series: Vore Day
Those silly Japanese/Pixiv guys. They have "official" days for Pokemon. They have days for Vocaloid and Touhou characters. They have days for confectionary goods like Pocky.
They have days for fetishes.
August 8, Vore Day. Or for any of you Japanese, 「8月8日は丸呑みの日」 or 丸呑みの日 for short. Basically, they use 丸呑み meaning "swallowed whole" as their term for vore, but 丸呑み can either be read as or sounds phonetically the same as "all circles," I forget. I read it somewhere, that too I forget. Probably an Eka's Portal post or the description of a Vore Day work. My Japanese patchwork knowledge isn't enough to be perfectly sure, but I can tell you that 丸 at least does mean "circle."
There's also the "ate-ate" pun in English, but it might be coincidence. It most likely is, but I honestly hope not as it would've been cool if they were able to make a bilingual pun. I've spent a good time studying linguistics, that's probably why this interests me so much and why I can greatly appreciate how our languages can make the same conclusion with two vastly different puns.

That was the first result for 「8月8日は丸呑みの日」, meaning it's been a thing since 2012 on Pixiv. Eka's Portal, a site where I'm but a pure lurker but intend to join eventually, picked up on it two years later.
Now, I have some good news and bad news. The good news is that I've finally started working on my next story again, and this time I mean it. And I intended to have it up today. Therefore, the bad news is I'm not done. Which sucks. A lot. Because I really wanted there to be some Eeveelution pred representation today, and as we all know, the Eeveelutions are the favorite prey of the entire Japanese Pokevore collective. As in, every single artist there overuses it way more than we do, and for some reason I don't like it as much as the Eevee prey stuff we have here.
Might as well put Pixiv's tag here for the sake of it. Now with less URL-shorten encoding fail!
UPDATE: Was able to confirm that it's mostly coincidence. The Japanese pun is the "official" reason for the date. That said, it's a little-known fact. The "ate-ate" pun may be coincidence, but then again it makes way too much sense. But it kinda bothers me that our side of things is in the dark about its Pixiv roots and that they think that's the actual reason. So I'm more than happy to have posted my own journal. There's "the truth," but here we have the truth.
