No MFF for me this year, most likely.

The possibility of me attending my home furcon has dropped to a number you can count on two hands. In addition to sudden familial issues, I can think of three other complications that have deterred me from going this year.
Hotel Room Troubles: Rooms at the hotel MFF takes place in sold out within FIVE minutes of opening reservations back in April, and no other hotel within walking distance (half a mile, or just under a kilometer) has made arrangements with MFF. Neither I (obviously) nor anyone else I know was able to secure a reservation there.
In addition, MFF shut down its forums last year for never-revealed reasons. Since they were the one place where other furs could negotiate to get a room at the hotel, MFF Staff encouraged users to use a website specifically made to negotiate hotel rooms at furcons. That might have worked well... except this year since April there have been over 50 users asking for a room at the MFF hotel, and there have been a grand total of only five offers for hotel room space on that site, with none of them offering space at the MFF hotel.
Lack of Attending Friends: Less than two months away from MFF, and only two friends of mine have confirmed to be attending, and they're attending only because a popufur friend they know managed to squeeze them into a room at the MFF hotel. Since they are rather big names themselves, they will no doubt be surrounded by their fans and would not have the time to stay with someone as "insignificant" as myself. Other friends that would have liked to attend are unable to due to either "lack of funds" or "no time off of work".
Last Year's Misery: 2012, 2013, and 2014 were all good times I had at MFF, and could even say that they were the only truly happy times I had in the past five years. MFF 2015 was not as happy, however, due to getting sick from food, a severe reduction on the con's ConSuite watering hole, and a total lack of anyone I knew attending due to jobs and funds. That is acting like a slight deterrent, but it's still a valid deterrent.
Going to MFF might still be in the cards, but at this point something along the lines of all the planets and dwarf planets aligning is what's needed to make it happen.

Sorry to hear you won't be making it this year. I agree that the room situation is silly. It's been problematic for a couple of years now.

I haven't been to a furry con in some years now, and virtually all of them, not just MFF, have had their attendance numbers, doubled, tripled, or even in a couple of cases, quadrupled. It wasn't easy to secure a room at the main hotel back then, and I cant imagine how it is now. Unfortunately, I expect this to be new norm at all but small local cons, as the furry fandom continues to grow, combined with the lack of rooms.
