My view on TMNT 2012
Well, what do I have to say...
Well I am a bit late to the party but wanted to give my opinion and a few thoughts on it.
Very first thing:
To get the big personal elephant out of the room first, yea I am disappointed that they wimped out and didn't make Karai's snake form permanent, making her a shapeshifter instead.
Now to the main main points though:
For the most I really like the show, the art style is great, the humor is nice and it does try to go somewhat more serious while not being completely grim-dark, it does retain jokes and chuckles.
But there is something that leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth, and that is that at times it tries to be too harmless.
There's no blood to be shown ever and “never say die” is in full force (with the exception of critters and a few kraang).
They could have committed a little more towards the more serious side, not by going fully dark and brutal but by being slightly more willing to show actual damage done.
Then there are OP characters, first and foremost Shredder and Splinter.
Splinter burns me the most on that one. They tried too much to make him the “awesome kickass teacher” and went way too far.
I can fully understand making him more capable of fighting but he is essentially unbeatable.
In the 80s series Splinter was a lot more frail and his mutation actually held him back. But he could still teach the Turtles all he knows and acted way more as a mentor. It was understandable why he couldn't fight alongside them.
But here there seriously is no reason why he wouldn't go out and help since he alone is way more powerful than all four Turtles together. If he got off his ass and followed along they could have taken out the Shredder easily.
So basically it' “too much of a good thing”, trying to make splinter capable they ended up making him overpowered and make it very grating why he doesn't help out more.
Shredder is more excusable with being so OP since he is supposed to be the human big bad and has always been.
Here the issue too is though that he's essentially unbeatable.
From my understanding it was originally a lot more that the Turtles couldn't take Shredder on 1v1, but all four of them together had the upper hand (thus also his need for minions). Here once again they stand pretty much no chance against him.
Then there's Mikey... to make it short, given and clutching the idiot ball far too often.
Lastly there is the plot decay of the late third and early fourth season. There's hope the the new episodes of season 4 will pick up a bit again though so not saying too much on that yet.
That's my thoughts on the show so far.
If you'd like to discuss the points I'd gladly hear it.

To me it felt like there were some characters they didn't know what to do with.
And as said with my personal "grievance" of them wimping out of making Karai's mutant form permanent. There seems to be a general issue of committing to something. Characters that should be dead somehow surviving is another one too.

Shredder LOST fight with Splinter after the Turtles came back from space. Splinter ended up beating Shredder so badly he's been bedridden, Baxter acting as his physician... using a mutagen formula to try and heal him. Plus, the way Splinter is talking it makes me think he's not long for this world...
It's still very enjoyable and goofy and I do like the humor. The space episodes left a bit to be desired, but then again it always kinda seems like TMNT jumps the shark sooner or later.
Yeah, I watch it when the new stuff is on and at this point its barely worth the watch if Bebop or Rocksteady isnt the focus. Sometime I think Im only watching it for the off chance that they bring Alopex from the comics into the fray or any furbait of the season. Hah.
On another note, I LOVED Halfshell Heroes. I know its blatantly a cash grab, but its god teir compared to the 16 Turtles.
Oh shit, I was talking about a show for a moment.....u-uh COMMANDER ZERA, boy can she really intimidate. Ah there we go.
Lil Shiny would get along really well with Mikey. I don't think he's an idiot. He just likes to be a lil goofy now and then and I don't mind him doing things the silly way. There have also been times when he got his act together in a dangerous situation. =3
Besides that all, one of my fav designs is still Leatherhead. He looks awesome in this series. Especially enjoy his friendship with Mikey. <X3
Very much so: He could easily hold off each of the four when they attacked on their own, (mind you, they were all tired and injured from the opening fight with the Foot). When they took him four on one, they put him on the ropes nearly instantly and quickly score a mortal wound, (katana right through his chest).
Mind you, he didn't have the minions to deal with the Turtles: He only learned of the TMNT's existence, (and that only of there being someone who had reason to want revenge for the murder of Hamato Yoshi and Tang Shen), a day before his one battle with the Turtles. For all he would be later obsessed about on TV, Oroku Saki only appeared in a single issue before dying.
past that, its a good series, but GOOD LORD was the way they wrapped up the invasion arc horribly done. They didn't really address it at all, they pretty much just said "oh, we can hit the reverse button and fix everything". Was seriously unhappy about that conclusion to the krangs invasion :/
For the Kraang invasion they really could have used more episodes to wrap it up, and the retro mutagen instead of being a deus ex Mikey could have discovered documents and proper ways to solve it. Hell they could have sneakily introduced Bishop into it that way instead of just dropping him in out of nowhere.
The fact that they don't seem to be concerned about this fact is kind of hilarious honestly XD
