America the Great.. R.I.P.
While the news sources haven't called it, I acknowledge that Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States, Heaven help us all. I just hope there will still be something left of this country before the end of his first term. Hey, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and I'll be the first to admit it. He might actually make a good president. But frankly, I think all this buffoon of a candidate proved tonight is that Americans are even dumber than I thought they were. I knew the majority of Ohioans were idiots. I live here and have to deal with it on a daily basis...but I was hoping there was some intelligence in the rest of the country. I guess not.
the wildest worst cases we can imagine have suddenly become a lot less improbable, but they're also not the only things that are.
we still really won't know what will happen until it does.
yes i have a bad, slightly terrified feeling in my gut. americans may yet envy people in nepal or bengladesh, and china is a not unlikey example of what america is to become. nothing is that simple. what is to become of old people who aren't rich? or even college students who's parents aren't? and those who are homeless now? and traditional ethnic targets of biggotry?
will we all have the sense to band together to make common cause, of what we all in common face?
i had similar fears 36 years ago when raygun was elected. not everything that came out of that was bad, though some, we have never recovered from, and some of that made this possible.
he may even say 'just kidding' about a lot of his crap, and/or forget he ever said it.
the environment is still really the big thing, bigger then international politics and economics. not being center stage doesn't make it go away. we've known we've been screwing that, every since the early 70s, and have mostly only been making it worse since, though we now have technologies we didn't then, that would allow us to not have to keep doing so.
