but most of all be kind 🤠
Kind of like Cars?
SO I DON'T KNOW WHY? Why are people dogs?
I was stuck like 'WOW THESE LANDSCAPES ARE BEAUTIFUL
what IS this character crap tho.'
I hated his DUMB KNOBBY KNEES! D:< And how the T-rex family acted like they were saying gitty-up to themselves????
Just real disappointing. Character designs, the story, everything.
what
you ride WHAT??!!!
I was really NOT into it.
But! I watched a video on this at one point actually.
And, assuming the information in that was legit, the good dinosaur was in development for many years, so long in fact, that most of the original production team left, including the director, I believe? I know from that video Arlo's original voice actor was also older and Arlo himself was supposed to be older. Basically it was summarized that a lot of the rendition that came out was, in fact, completely different than the original ideas that the original production team had done. Arlo was more-or-less aged down, and while I'm sure the same basic story was probably there, things were changed. Or, at least, that's what I remember the video saying - and I think it was a fairly legitimate video.
Of course, I mean, that's the more legitimate answer - a new director and new production team caused changes.
If we're looking for humor.... well I don't really have any jokes. So
Still a better love story than twilight?
We didn't hate it but we didn't really like it much either. Landscapes were pretty, character designs were meh but pretty uninspired. I really disliked the kid though, wish they wouldve just stuck with a strictly dinosaur story and not had humans in it (but that's a personal preference) it was just awkward.
The amount of times that dinosaur bruised his knees though made me quite uncomfortable tbh
the entirety of the of movie, else wise, was just a disaster, and frankly disturbing af for a kid movie nowadays*. (*i feel this way anyway)
I dunno. The character designs were just so awful. so awful in contrast to the backgrounds.
*****
SPOILERS AHEAD (also, i got opinions)
It just followed that over-done dead parent issue, but weakly, and not much else of the story made ANY sense, i mean, unless you just take it as it is. lmao
But the dad dying was just.. :| saw it coming from like 7 years ago. (truth be told, i only saw this movie once, and it was several months ago, so i am sure i am missing much more juicy critique that i had back then) And when the son dreamt about the dad and it was.... eerie af.
Also talking about just smashing humans in the head with a rock/stick/ect. idk. Very disturbing. I didn't think they needed that callousness? I know the point was to kinda learn about these "pests" but it was just lame and weak. "OOOOO BUT WHAT IF IT WAS THE OTHER WAAYYYYYY OOO~~~""" booo. hiss. Watered down booboo boo. I was so disappointed. SO DISAPPOINTED. damn. The effects in the movie were breathtaking but the character designs shat all over it and then throw an also OVER-DONE and WEAK story, and POOR character developing and the characters there were not too like-able or unique for me... i mean. maybe i am taking it too personally.
Just wtf WHY dinosaurs???? WHYYYY??? WHy. and if dinosaurs, WHYYYYYYY this. WHY.
Also, aside from me just being utterly disappointed, it was not memorable. lol
I was just "OHHHHH SH-"
idk. there was so much in this movie that had very dark undertones, but it wasn't done in a good way like, Secret of NIHM / Watership Down. It was just thrown in there, like no tact. lol
refused to just because the character designs were SO bad. I don't think I could deal with that for 1.5+ hours. //shudders//
why were Arlo's legs so knobby and his feet so big??
whose idea was this???
God it was so impressive
So, there you go. It's not bad, The Good Dinosaur is comedy GOLD!
I especially loved the T-rex's running around like they were riding horses. The movie itself was just beautiful.
DO YOU DARE QUESTION THE LOGIC OF DISNEY MOVIES ?
*sprays you with a spray bottle*
Bv
The character design in general could have been so much better. But i just think it was a fast paced jumble of fuck about kids getting lost and finding themselves. It's cliche. It's supposed to show off their animation skills while trying to entertain kids and make them feel like being afraid is ok but it shouldn't stop you.
I have similar gripes with Frozen though. How the story seemed a bit too fast paced and forced too me. I just think as we grow older we over analyze stuff and have a soft spot for movies we loved as kids and tend to not criticize those in the same way as we do new movies. At least that's how i've come to see it XD haha!
1. Spot ripping the bug's head off. It was so sudden, and the bug was clearly alive, and even though "bug guts" isn't new to kids movies, it wasn't played for laughs (I don't think), and is just too "realistic."
2. The nyctosaurus eating the furry creature. It wasn't the flat out eating it that shocked me, it was the other ones fighting over the tail while it was still in the first one's mouth. I could not imagine a kid seeing that and not being scared.
3. Spot ripping the hole in the nyctosaurus' wing. It's not like feathers being ripped out, it was SKIN being bitten and torn open in front of kids watching the movie.
Now I'm not a baby when it comes to mild violence and gore, but like, if I had been a kid that would have traumatized me to some degree. Those scenes just weren't done appropriately.
Oh and the berry eating scene. Having eyes pop up on his head freaked me the fuck out (I have a fear of things like that), and it was 30 sec of weird hallucinations. It wasn't interesting like the Pink Elephants scene from Dumbo, nor was it even funny like other drug trips can be. It was just weird.
The scenery was absolutely gorgeous, but meshing it with super cartoony creatures wasn't a good move. Nothing about it is interesting to me, and did nothing to serve the movie. And the sheer amount of bruising Arlo receives (plus general injuries) is just depressing. When the movie was done, I felt sad as fuck. The movie pummels you with emotions and the ending just isn't enough to cheer you up.
I also would have liked the movie much more if it had no humans and just focused on dinosaurs. Somehow the human element just made me not as into it.
Anyway, that's a long enough ramble.
BODY HORROR GALORE
and yeah, I kept wondering 'why could this not have been a story about a real human and a real dog. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF MAKING HIM A DINOSAUR'
Funny story though: The Disney Stores (and Target I believe) got a ton of product of characters that were written out of the movie. Like, at least three of them. Nobody had any idea who they were, but they must have been pulled from the story SUPER late into production to have that amount of toys of them. Needless to say, they were marked down to diddly squat because they wouldn't sell and will forever be the ghost of messy production.
and yeah, halfway through the movie I'm asking 'why am I supposed to like this guy???'
that's always a bad sign
like no stop
one reason i don't watch nor read mainstream.
fiction that's actually about science, engineering, technology, even the 'soft' sciences and art, mostly avoids that problem.
can't say much for what media calls sciffy though, as its seldom legitimately about anything besides human stupidity.
Also there's the scene where they get high. What was the point of that?
*the dad is so nonchalant about having his....what like barely even a couple years old kid brutally murdering something?
*the dad had trouble getting up the hill, he had plenty of time to as well and its not like it was raining enough to hinder him or cause the massive flood that kills him
*Arlo blames Spot for it when they could have just let him run off and kept protecting the silo
*the fact that all they seam to eat is corn and yet they had chickens too for no reason, i forget are they even brought up again?
*how it just randomly seems to shift to a western movie
*the weird cult about the storm for flying creatures who....you know if they followed a hurricane wouldnt be able to actually fly
*Spot is just straight up a dog, his new family he gets is just straight up dog people too and yet they all walk like normal humans in their last shot
*they had a getting high scene for no reason other than probably to stretch the movie out another couple minutes
*the brutality in some scenes (the giant bug Spot brings Arlo, Arlo bites through someones wingflap which is made of SKIN)
AND not to mention The Good Dinosaur was a old movie that i think was supposed to be out like 2012 but kept getting pushed back, I remember seeing little nods to it in the Disney animation building in MGM/Hollywood Studios in Disney World at around that time, the designs for the characters are terrible for half the cast (the Trexs are p good tho, just needed slightly smaller heads), its obvious with all the weird half attempts at different stories(Arlo's farm having this weird vibe to it, the Boy and His Dog tired old cliche shoved into the movie, the Western aspects, the forest scene with the guy with all the animals in his antlers, and the fact you could find like 4 or so different toys of dinos not even in the movie but where obviously supposed to be in it.) I feel like the only thing they kept from the ORIGINAL idea for the film was the absolutely stunning landscapes and how the water looked like....real actual water.
There is a scene though, when (spoilers) the protagonist thinks he's talking to his dad but then he just melts away into the rain/mist, that gives me the chills everytime I see it.
Other than that, meh.
