Anyone out there collect minerals?

My son has recently got really into minerals and gemstones. Im plan on buying some unopened geodes for him for christmas, but I would like as optimal a chance as possible to get some decent looking insides and not just white quartz in everyone. Could use some experienced advice on were to purchase,
