A lot of you already know this, but I am amazed at how often it still crops up, so if I can help one person...
When you use paypal it is AGAINST their TOS for the seller to request you send it friends and family or ask for extra to cover the fees. Those fees are the sellers responsibility.
I have been in this situation a few times myself were it was requested and I refused every time. Not only is it underhanded of the seller, but it could get your and their paypal accounts flagged and suspended. Its not worth it.
PLease do not allow yourself to be bullied into sending friends and family. Protect yourself, protect your account. leave yourself the ability to fight a payment if the artist renigs on their end of the deal <never sends art, ect>
If the artist threatens to black list you, let them, If they threaten to post a BOI, let them. They do not have a legal leg to stand on and the majority of the community will side with you given pay pals TOS.

From my side of the pond, please dont ever fucking do charge backs -unless- its your absolute last result. Paypal does its best to protect the buyer, but very. very little to protect sellers. I am watching a good artist go under right now because someone charged back and obscene amount of payments and every single one charged them a fee ontop of the removed funds.

Very welcome! My hope was it will help keep people from unknowingly getting caught up and potentially on the bad side of a deal. Ruins it for eveeryone when that trust is lost.

Yeah it’s kind of shocking how many artists I had been following complain that their PayPal got shut down and couldn’t comprehend that it was because they were asking people to send it as friends and family. One Discord server I was in would go into a panic every time PayPal would en masse enforce something in their ToS and say how it was unfair that PayPal was doing that.

yah, I had an artist argue with me and was out right rude when and told me not to bid on their stuff anymore when I refused to pay an invoice he sent me that he had tacked extra fees on <that he didnt even mention he would do in the auction> and said they were to cover PP fees when I asked about it.
