They essentially come in three stages. The lower end, which are more like recurve bows, the middle range, which are somewhat more like composite bows (but the body of the bow around the components hides it really), and the top-range bows which use an crystal-based energy matrix that provides both energy-based bolts as "arrows", and an energy-based self-accelerating string.
Imagine a bow more likanable to a railgun, that's kind of how the upper-most class works out.
Dev, however, uses a middle-class bow. The upper-class bow is only issued to sniper rank military classes.
...haven't seen a pic of Dev w/a quiver etc.
These reasons are not to be publically debated, however.
So you'll just have to think up your own. I suggest something involving the muffin mafia and infatable cows.
