I was told that if I stayed friends with a certain someone then I was no longer their friend. We've all known each other for years and I don't know what the problem is between them, but to force that kind of decision on me ended my friendship with the ultimatum giver instead.

I am the one who choses who I am friends with, not others. Friendship with me does not come easily and is based on mutual respect and trust. To violate either hurts me and I will drop any contact with them that isn't necessary, for I do not take friendship lightly. If I offend a friend, I apologize to them and explain myself. If I am hurt by a friend, I expect to know why, to understand the reason. There might be good cause for it, for understanding is part of friendship as well. I believe that we choose how we live our lives by our actions and how we treat others.
