2 more angles in heaven.

The last 3 weeks have been some of the most depressing of my life. Days before my birthday one of our oldest cats suffered stage 3 kidney failure and I had to make the decision to put him to sleep rather than watch him suffer a painful death, he was a good cat who loved everybody including my German Shepherd who regularly groomed him. Always made me smile to see a 90lb gentle giant grooming a 8lb cat. Then Monday I took My dog to the vet as he wasn’t eating and seemed a bit unsteady walking, he had a cancerous lump on his spleen that spread to his lungs, and once again I was given the choice of letting him go peacefully or watch him suffer. I held my friend in my lap as he passed away. It’s been a long time since I have cried so hard, he was my best friend and I feel like part of my soul has vanished. I have lost track of how many times I’ve reached down to pet him the last few days.

oh my gosh...I'm sorry for your loss, it isn't easy losing any members especially the furry ones we call our family. At least you can take solace knowing your german is grooming your cat in heaven, waiting for the time when you reach the rainbow bridge.

OP
I love all the animals I call my friends but Gunnar (my Shepherd) was the first dog I ever picked out for myself as a adult and we shared a very special bond. He was always at my side. He would lay at my feet in bed till he thought I was asleep then he would get off the soft bed and lay on the hard wood floor facing the bedroom door watching the hallway to make sure I was safe. He was the sweetest dog you would ever meet but he would have put his own life at risk to protect me and I would have done the same.
