It may be hard to believe now, but my favorite movie used to be Speed with Keanu Reeves I had it on VHS and watched it to death and showed it to all my friends, it's actually pretty guilty to watch nowadays as my car beliefs get in the way seeing all the innocent cars and bus being destroyed and hurt for the movie. Anyway I was crazy for buses as a kid, specifically flat-front rear engine buses like the one in the movie and the ones at my school. So I'd say 2525 from Speed was my fantasy dream vehicle. http://media.liveauctiongroup.net/i.....D5CCD7A02F1BB0 I was always into Titanic as well, so I guess she'd be my dream ship. But if we're going realistically, I guess hence my bus interests I wanted a 1970s VW bus. They were all over the place up in the Pacific Northwest where I lived.
I don't know if a movie ever really scared me, not that I can remember. But I do remember that a Bermuda Triangle documentary I had on VHS as a kid, I was about 10, it had this one scene with a Speedboat that literally frightened me as a kid. Even now as an adult it's still eerie as fuck with the images of the crusty old boat laying on the bottom as if it were still sailing surrounded by miles of black void, that guy talking cold monotone and describing what maybe happened to it based on what he sees, and that FUCKING scary as HELL music! I mean wtf! It cut to commercials right after that scene and never talked about it again so it left you feeling really unsettled and abrupt. That documentary left such an impact on me I never forgot it and I even uploaded it to youtube, here's the part, tell me if it scares YOU.
I like Speed as well, and you are right about all those cars that got smashed into by the bus. The one that gets me the most is that red 1968 Pontiac LeMans that got hit pretty hard in the rear quarter panel. http://imcdb.org/vehicle_2499-Ponti.....Mans-1968.html
Aside from that, I absolutely loved Speed. Keanu Reeves was great as Jack Traven and Dennis Hopper as Howard Payne (not quite sure how his last name is spelled) solidified his performances as the bad guy of the '90s and it really sucks that he died in 2011.
I think you forgot to include the link to the Bermuda Triangle documentary.
Yeah I hate that real cars had to be destroyed in movies. At least now most of them are CGI though it doesn't make it any less uncomfortable to watch.
Yeah Reeves was perfectly cast for that role, usually people give him shit for being monotone but in that role it makes sense as him being a focused level headed police officer. I also agree, Hopper was a great actor but I'll always remember him as Howard Payne. Did you ever watch young Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider?
Well, he didn't have monotone in Speed or Bill & Ted, but he did phone every line in in Bram Stoker's Dracula which made a bad movie even more unbearable. I'll be honest, the only movie where his monotone worked was that goddawful remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still. I don't recall if he had a monotone in John Wick, though.
No, I have not seen Hopper in Easy Rider but I have seen him in the infamous Super Mario Bros movie (a personal guilty pleasure)), his small part in Rebel Without a Cause (I'm not kidding, he's in there somewhere!) and him going batshit insane in Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 as Lefty which is tied with his role as Howard Payne from Speed.
Watched that clip and I felt something for a few seconds! Do you suppose that somewhere out there.... boats that have sank are still afloat in some other world?
Depends if the multiverse is true. If so then sure, there's probably millions of that boat in universes where it didn't sink. It also exists in art still, I drew that picture with it in there as you know. https://www.furaffinity.net/view/12761115/
I could always use the money sure. I just have SO many things stuck in my STUPID HEAD *beats head* that I want to get out for you guys to see and not enough time or energy to get it all! ><
Have you ever driven any of your cars at the limits of their handling? I imagine Lilly would be fun to toss about at an autocross!
I just got back from an autocross so my mindset is still in that mode. We had a stock 90s Jellybean Taurus and a stock late-2000s Accord Sedan go head-to-head in one class and they had close times!
Oh I couldn't. I empathize with her too much, whenever I try to push her I get guilty like why am I making her work so hard? Plus she's an old lady of a car you know? She's 16, she's been across the country twice, north-south, and east-west, with 194,000 miles on her. It just feels abusive and reckless to put extra strain on her for no good reason. I just keep thinking of those dynomo fail videos where the cars rev higher and higher until a piston finally explodes out the bottom of the block.
My mechphile roomate did autocross.. he drives all his cars hard and I did let him drive her once pushing her a BIT. I was gritting my teeth the whole time anticipating a sudden CLUNK and then her engine is fucked. Luckily that didn't happen.. he said she had more pep then he imagined she would. He drove his stock Honda Civic Lyka in an empty driveway, skidding her around light poles and stuff. It's just abusive.. these cars aren't made to be handled like that.. you're trying to make them something they're not and all it's going to do is hurt them.
Fair enough with Lilly and Lyka. My Miata lives for these moments (and mountain passes). The reason I keep trying to get people to come to autocross is to not really push the engine but rather push the tires so drivers know what it's like to get the most out of their rubber...and how to rescue themselves once they exceed that limit! We actually did an event called "Street Survival" the day before where parents brought their children in the children's' own cars (sometimes rentals or borrowed from parents) and we showed them what ABS feels like, how to catch a skid, slaloming, and how to emergency lane changes/avoidance maneuvers without losing control!
Engines shouldn't typically blow up if you're up to date with maintenance like timing belt/chain, fluid servicing, and etc. It's very rare for my Miata to see redline...and we really give the course hell when it's our time to shine!
That reminds me, I need to go back to Craigslist hunting for an early-2000s Accent GT...
I forget about you telling me about your Miata. Damn every time I hear Miata now I think sexy thanks to Cindi and Ashley lol.. what is your sexy girl? What's her name?
Well I get that, and that's good to know. That's what my roomate always says too.. he wants to push his car so he can know what it's limits are and how it'll react in an emergency situation. He explained how not to over-steer and how if you overseer 3 times or whatever you're fucked. I wouldn't mind taking that course with Lilly just to know emergency maneuvers. But I need to get her her new rear struts first.. they're failing.
Also yeah, her maintenance has been followed good. But I don't have any records of when the timing belt was last changed and that worries me. I want to make sure to get that done soon before I push her at all. Also I think her fuel filter is clogged, she struggles up hills.. starts missing.
I never really give her a name, only the nickname "Gremlin" because there's always something making an odd noise although it's been running fine after getting the carbon out of the engine last year. I also recently uploaded my latest autocross...I still need to vacuum out the dust and scrub off the cone stuff on the passenger side from that spin!
Yes, get shocks because bad shocks can lead to other things wearing out like bearings and tires if ignored for too long! As for the missing, you might want to take a peek into the fuel tank to see if there's rust or gunk in there. You might need to replace the fuel pump, filter, and possibly the tank if it's badly rusted. The Miata had missing issues early one under my ownership due to a LOT of crud in the fuel system.
I always liked the second-generation Accent GT, especially after the update in 2003, and the third-gen SE (I wish I could smuggle a Canadian Accent SR across the border as I like the bodykit Hyundai gave them) because they were potential first-cars for me instead of the HHR and then the Miata. They look like light and nimble cars I could chuck about at an autocross or even a rallycross (autocross but on dirt)! I'm really liking the idea of a rough manual Accent GT/SE as a rallycross car, something that could be fun in the dirt and stay reliable.

I saw the Cinemassacre review of TCM Part 2 but never watched it. Check out young Hopper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7GJ018Avgw

You want an Accent like Lilly? o.o

Well there's new stuff on my patreon. <: D
