Update! 2019
Welp, it's been.. about 2 years now since I last posted a journal.. XD Whoops. Lol. I don't have many excuses for most of that first year, since I believe I did at least post art. But as for the past 6ish months, I've been working another job. It's been full time and then some. For a while there I was working almost 11 hours a day Mon-Fri. It's finally starting to die down a bit, since the season is slowing down.
Oh right, I'm a walnut inspector by the way. XD I take samples, find defects, color, and such. If to much defects, the pallet gets tossed.. It's a relatively simple job once you get the paperwork and motions down. But that's where I've been! Working my ass off! Lol. I got this job originally so we could get a different car, since our PT Cruiser was on its last legs, and wouldn't even get me to work.
I will admit, I love my job and the people I work with, but it can get taxing. I know it doesn't sound like a whole lot to inspect walnuts every day, but it can get mentally draining. Most of the warehouses I get sent to, you have to walk a good 5-10 minutes to get to your line to grab a sample. One other warehouse, I made the mistake of helping the warehouse girls out with the line. Fixing boxes, running to stop something because it's fucking everything up, to dumping product because it is all not weighing right and the machine is shooting them off the line like rapid fire. Though, that one place is actually my favorite. I absolutely love working there, even if it is exhausting. It's where I started my job off at, and was there for a good 3ish months before my boss started moving me around. The girls and guys all love me there. They're pretty much my work family. X3 I was offered a job there, since I wasn't sure how long my actual job would last, since it's technically seasonal. The warehouse itself runs year around though.
As awesome as that would be, I don't know if I can keep doing 10-11 hour days, maybe even 12 if they teach me the forklift. It's really starting to wear me down. Hell, didn't even know it, I guess I had been living with a UTI since I started work... :| SO I've had it for 6 months.. why? Because my boss either refuses me a day off when I'm awfully sick and need to go see a doctor, or scheduling my day off for that appointment on the wrong day. Which then I have to reschedule the appointment. -.- Pissed her off pretty good the other day since I took it off so I could go to a walk in dr office. She pretty much put me down about it, and guilt tripped me! No one to cover my shift, someone else is out on medical leave, someone is on vacation, and another's mom died. I feel for them, but I need to see a damn doctor! I had to go to the damn er after work a week before this just because I was afraid to call my own boss to let me out of work. That's when I found out I had a UTI. i had to forcefully take a day off to go in again because my antibiotics weren't working, and I was getting worse very fast. Soooo, she can suck this big dragon dick! XD
All in all, I'm feeling better now. But, the whole point of this random rant (sorry, this wasn't suppose to be a rant, lol), is that I'm looking for a new job. As much as I want to work for my favorite warehouse, I don't want to put that burden on them, and the hours.. uuugh. Lol. Some killer money, but I'd like to see my husband and kitty more than 3 hours a day. >. < Plus, I miss my art! I miss drawing for you guys!
I have a few job interviews coming up. I think if they don't work out, then I'm just going to go back to my warehouse. Even if the hours are long, at least I won't be dealing with my current boss. Plus, the warehouse offers medical, dental, and 401k. My job doesn't offer any of that, and I'd be working the same hours! T_T
So, aside from that, I am also limiting my commissions greatly, if not all together. I'll take one on occasion, but nothing difficult. Since I will have to work on them on my weekends around my work schedule. I'm also upping the prices. Why? Because I'm doing my second job (art) on my days off. I preferably like to just draw for myself and relax, not work on something for someone else. Unless you're a good friend of course, I might let that slide. XD You don't like it? Then share my art everywhere and make me known so I can go back to art full time. I'd really like to do that, but I also don't want to be living in the gutter again because I would get one one commission a month. :/ *Shrug* It is what it is.
If you've read this far, thank you! Sorry it's a bit long, but a lot has been going on. I've got a few art pieces in the works that will eventually be done and ready to post, so stay tuned!! Thanks for being loyal followers! <3 <3 <3
