"Call Twilight Sparkle... shit's about to get magical!"
So given it's been a few weeks, I thought I'd give my thoughts on the newish Pokemon updates we got this month.
Galarian Forms: Regional forms are back and we got to see two of them. Weezing and the Zigzagoon lines.
Galarian Weezing is Poison/Fairy with Levitate and a new ability in Neutralizing Gas which negates all abilities. It's appearance is... well the jokes write themselves. It draws in polluted air and purifies it (which I guess is why it's part Fairy?). Nice to see GF cares about the environment. First Alolan Muk and now Galarian Weezing.
Galarian Zigzagoon is Normal/Dark (seriously, why can't it be mono Dark?) and apparently the ORIGINAL variant of Zigzagoon. I do like the black and white colors and the star markings on its eyes give it that KISS look (especially with the tongue), it's pretty cute. Naturally, it evolves into Linoone, but this regional variant actually GETS an extra evolution! Obstagoon. Or if you prefer, Gene Simmons as a Pokemon. I dig its look and I hope it has some good stats to boot.
Morpeko is this region's Pikachu. Always hungry, it has two forms. Full Belly which is pure Electric and (I kid you not) Hangry which is pure Dark. It does get a new move called Aura Wheel which forces it to change forms. All in all, it's a Pikachu clone so there's not too much to it.
Rivals: So we got two new rivals revealed in the game as well. Bede and Marnie.
Bede gets an endorsement from Chairman Rose and aims to win the Gym Challenge. Since he's endorsed by the chairman, and you by the champion, he believes himself superior to you. Yep, we got a jerk Rival on our hands. Not much else is known except he has his reason for wanting to be champion. My money is on he'll have development like Silver. A jerk, but he has his reasons.
Marnie is trainer who is know for her calm and precise style of battling. Like your character, she want's to be champion for her own goals. However, this has caused her to gain the attention of the evil team of this region.
Team Yell. So, they're continuing the trend Team Skull set in Gen 7. Breaking away from the serious evil teams and giving them a different goal. Team Yell are Marnie's "fans". They're loud, punk-themed hooligans who will do ANYTHING to make sure Marnie succeeds (of course, she's not affiliated with them and doesn't like them being around her). I think they're kinda cool to be honest and I'll give them a fair shake, but Team Skull is going to be hard to top.
Last thing is PokeJobs. You can now send your boxed pokemon out to do jobs for various companies in Galar to gain EXP and even items. Some, I think, may either require certain pokemon or certain ones more fitted to the jobs will do better.
That's about it. Worlds did drop a trailer showing off some new items, but the main thing was there will finally be an online ranking system for those who play competitively. I might dabble in it for a little bit, but I doubt I'll do well with my piss poor skills. >_>;
Anways, that's all I could scrounge together. Still excited for the games. Been really likgin what I've seen so far and I hope the game will have a decent amount of postgame stuff to do.

I equated him to Silver because he was a jerk at the start but loosened up over time. In HGSS, you learn my he was the way he was. He was Giovanni's son and Giovanni care more about Team Rocket than his own son because he thought Silver was weak.
Some have equated Bede to Gladion, and that holds no water. Gladion was never a jerk. He was always serious and tightly wound up, but that was because he wanted to be strong enough to protect his family from the UBs.
Bede on the other hand... I think they just added him with that personality because fans kept complaining and complaining about not having a jerk rival... so yeah... Honestly I really hope with Bede they end the jerk rival trend fans have been going for so long... They must understand that a jerk rival is NOT the only kind of rival worth having
btw, the only manbaby is that foreskin mummy people in USA calls president.
The main reason people want a jerk rival is because it feels good to bring someone who think they're better than you down a peg.
I think we have a good balance of all the types in Sword and Shield with Hop, Marnie, and Bede.
Everyone wins in this situation.
And team yell? God they’re just, to me, horrendous. I mean seriously, the dark pink with black and punk look doesn’t do well, those colors seem more appropriate to Glam Rock rather then Punk Rock, but what kind of irks me the most is they seem to be more akin to “those kinds” of people you see in public to scream at the top of their lungs their opinions are without a doubt a fact and not a possibility and you should agree with them or else you’re a bigoted indoctrinated whatever offensive term they would use against you. Team skull to me is still the best in terms on how likable they are and even design wise as well as their motives and endgame as well, honestly they have more respect and dignity then these guys from how I see it.
As for the Pokémon: the Pikachu clone is odd, Weezing being a filtration Pokemon for the environment is good, and now we have another edgy Pokémon who rocks their heads off like Zoroark & Lycanroc, and by god I love it and can’t wait to see how capable this rock star Pokémon is in battle. Oh and one more thing: “They took our JAWBS!!!”
I agree Team Yell has a lot to live up to. Right now, they're just loud, obnoxious fans whom Marnie wants nothing to do with.
That said, we still need to know WHY Team Yell is so infatuated with her. My theory is their leader could be an obsessed fan who developed a "notice me senpai" complex because they saw Marnie's way of battling. That said, a team leader who is a creeper would be kind of interesting. I do think Team Yell may end up causing more trouble than you might think.
Also to add to that theory, I think one of her relatives are obsessively overly supportive with them to form Team Yell just to cheer her on, that I can believe it’s possible
Every bit of news about this game just makes me happy in pants. Eager for more.
Regional variants lets them return but be new in some way, so a long time fan gets to see a returning pokemon while a new fan sees it for the first time but isn't alienated from the previous versions.
That said, Obstagoon looks a bit too much like a person wearing a cheep fursuit. Someone did a mockup of it looking more like a proper badger and it was really nice looking.
