Life update, work and future commissions
Okay. I think I'm all up to date on the stuff I wanted to upload here. There was a lot in the backlog, and uploading is still a long drawn out thing here, but it's done for now.
First, I want to apologise again for not keeping folks here up to date on things. Not everyone is gonna be keeping tabs on my twitter, and I should account for that more really. I went to Malmö for a week to attend NordicFuzzCon in the 2nd half of February, and I had a blast meeting a buncha sweet people and hanging out and chilling and all that.... Then afterwards someone messaged that they'd missed the opportunity to meet me there, cuz I didn't give notice on FA when I was going, and that felt baaaaaaaad. x_x I need to do better, and at the very least update when a big thing like that that comes round again. Sorry again about that.
Now, with all this 'rona going around, my part-time-ish courier job has seen a massive spike in volumes since April, and has shown no signs of slowing down. As long as people are stuck in their homes, they will keep ordering online like mad. There's even speculation that even when restrictions are lifted enough that people can go shopping again, the volumes are still gonna remain high, because we'll be too comfortable with the way things are right now, and won't want to go out as we used to if drivers can deliver all our stuff for us. My co-worker even went as far to say, that it could stay like this forever. Sure, we're getting paid well for the work we're doing, but at the expense of any chance to take any length of time off for the foreseeable future. The only good news so far is that hopefully we will be able to finish sooner starting next week, but we'll see how it goes.
As you can probably guess, this puts a damper on a lot of things, including creative output, which will inevitably affect my ability to work on future commissions. At the moment, I'm just waiting for an idea from my last client on the backlog, but after that's done, I might not be able to open up full commissions like before. I've had it in mind that in future, I shouldn't open up comms during the busiest period of work, because a) there's already enough stress as is without piling on pressure to pump out art, and b) commissions are not a neccessity while the job's paying well, so there won't be pressure to do them anyway. In normal circumstances, this would've only meant that I'd be less likely to open comms in the winter because the Black Friday - Christmas - Jan Sales period is the busiest time for us. In current circumstances, work has proven to be *busier* than the busiest of the peak we've gone through during Christmas, and I've been on this shit for ~3.5 years. I can only imagine it getting worse still when we're still in lockdown by the time Christmas comes along. We'll be truly fucked then.
In short: Sorry for neglecting this site; 'rona sucks, work is busy af, as a result can't do commissions like I used to. Fuck capitalism.
Anyway, it's my day off, so I'mma chill, eat junkfood, binge she-ra, wank a bunch, and brace myself for another week of work. Peace!
