What a crazy year!
It's been awhile, guys!
I hope 2020's been treating everyone okay, despite... well, everything! Yikes.
More-or-less I took a hiatus due a bad living situation a few years ago. Oddly, the landlord was great — the problem was tight living quarters (4+ adults in a 4-bedroom 700-ft apartment) and a horrible subletter that a roommate got without approval or doing a credit check. Surprise, he didn't pay rent and was a giant pain.
It's not all bad, though! Spending time away allowed me to do some self-reflection, and I have some clear-ish art goals I'm aiming for in 2021 — mostly learning to paint in acrylic/gouache, but hey! I figured I'd get the ball rolling by posting some random stuff... and now that I posted, I'm morally obligated to keep posting at regular intervals. Pretty sure that's the law!
And since I know it might come up — I'm not taking commissions for the foreseeable future.
One — I want a good amount of recent artwork before I'd feel comfortable with someone giving me money (it has been *years* so... yeah!), and two — definitely don't want people to pay money for bad practice acrylic/gouache paintings from me. I'd just keep redoing stuff to make it "perfect", and ugh... probably not a good idea until I'm familiar with it.There will be opportunities for requests/suggestions as I'm practicing, but that's sort of on my whim and not really a commission or guarantee of art. ;)
Catch you guys soon, and enjoy the holidays! Stay safe!

I should at least be posting regularly, even if that means I don't take commissions. Hold me to it! ;)
I actually got into digital because I found watercolor and acrylics so terrible (how do you get a C in high school art class? Lol)... but I think that was mostly inexperience and bad tools. Definitely motivated to see how I do!
It's exciting to hear that you'll be back, looking forward to see more of your precious art!
Ngl, when I saw the howling shadows art (big SR nerd), I was like HFF YES :'P
And hell yeah, dude! Shadowrun itself is awesome, and Catalyst gave me a lot of freedom on the stuff I did for them. Fun company!
I look forward to the artstuffs to come! :>
I decided to learn how to paint in watercolor this year, it's been a lot of fun! I have gouache and some poster paint that I've been playing around with a lot, it's been therapeutic and fun. I do miss oils but they're expensive, not to mention I don't live in a good enough space to ventilate.
Looking forward to your work <3
I feel the same way about oils! I love them, but it *is* pretty difficult to ventilate, like you said. And definitely don't miss having to pay $70 for a good tube of lead white, ugh. Have you looked into water soluble oils? They seem like a good alternative for tight spaces, although I haven't had a chance to try any yet.
OMG yeah, I used water soluble oils, they were a god send when I was taking some painting classes. I'm a little mad that Winsor & Newton discontinued a bigger tube of Titanium White Artisan haha. I have some old canvas paper still, but the tubes are starting to dry out a bit. I could try acrylic in the mean time. How is acrylic paint?
Acrylic is great! There's a lot out there, and I guess it completely depends on what you want to do!
Acryla Gouache is perfect if you want acrylic to behave more like a matte gouache (especially for underpaintings in sketchbooks, or something you might not want to be re-activated with water), Golden Open acrylic has a long drying time (making it easier to blend/glaze, but still with a faster-than-oil drying time), and the regular run-of-the-mill Golden acrylics make it much easier to lay down some quick underpaintings without having to wait a thousand years for it to dry. Even if I move on to oils, I'd imagine I'd still be using acrylics for some things.
But yes... still pretty shaky skill-wise, haha! I know it's at least possible to get good results, though — some of my favorite fantasy illustrators (Steve Prescott comes to mind) use acrylics extensively.
Definitely not in my plans to disappear for years again, so I hope so too! XD
