A Word From the Dead
Posted a month agoSo, I kind of let it slip past me, because I was intending to get caught up on my submission queue first (which I still have yet to do), but now's probably the latest to do this if I'm going to do anything about it.
Probably going on four weeks ago now, I noticed that I hit 10,000 page views. That... is a lot of checking out my stuff. I mean, I'm still in awe I've got more than 100 views, have any regular watchers at all, and, in all honesty, that I'm even just still here at all! A little over three years now since I started this whole adventure on FA and here I am now.
To that end, while this is super short notice (I've considered a few factors that make me think that doesn't matter too much), I want to offer a little something just to say 'thank you' to whoever takes the time to read over my stuff. I've got some vacation time coming up soon and nothing to do with myself. To that end, I want to offer anyone with even a modicum of interest a spot in a story and/or pixel art raffle. Rules for entry are simple: just express interest in a comment below, no need to watch or anything, just say you want in.
[Raffle effectively closed - Oct. 5th, 2025, 12:00 PM EST]
Now, for anyone who does take me up on that offer, I just want to make it clear I reserve the right to refuse subject material that makes me uncomfortable. For the most part, that is just about anything explicitly sexual or overtly fetishistic in nature - I want to haphazardly punch keys or sloppily put pixels together to entertain, not to, for lack of a better word, stimulate.
In short: thank you all for humoring this joke in a cloak for the last three years; it truly means more than you could know. If you care to participate in the raffle, just say so below. I will, however, be cutting off the raffle at 12:00 PM EST on Sunday, October 5th, and reaching out to whoever wins shortly thereafter.
Got to run to work now (vacation hasn't started yet),

Dead is Bored... 6
Posted 10 months agoPrevious segment of "Dead is Bored...": https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10871177/
First things first: here's hoping everyone had a great 2024 and I wish a great 2025 to all.
With new year's greeting out of the way, the next section of this journal is meant to be a list of shout outs to some artists/writers/musicians that I've found and thoroughly enjoyed the works of.
Before I begin like normal, a huge congratulations to the following authors for having published their own novels:
(AKA Mekanip) - "A Chronicle of Lies - The Dark Sculptor" : I've actually shouted out this novel a number of times but it has been a thoroughly enjoyable and beautifully crafted experience. In brief, a mostly normal college student is simply going about his life as the winter holidays draw near when disaster strikes. After an unexpected incident on his way home, he awakens in a new world and in a body that isn't his own. Nothing about the experience makes any sense to the unfortunate young man but unlike anyone else in such a situation, he attributes the whole experience to his schizophrenia that has basically dominated his life since he was a child.
Author's launch post on FA: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59019337/
- "Dreamers of the Sea" : Ever the dreamer, a young fox manages to slip away from his father to pursue his ambition of living out on the sea. Unfortunately, the life of a sailor isn't quite how the fox imagined things being and it is up to his father to pull him out of the water.
Author's launch post on FA: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/57613544/
- "Work 'Fur' Hire" : This is one is actually a self-help book for anyone looking for tips and tricks on how to more effectively approach job hunting. Although the majority makes up Edwin's professional advice, he actually reached out to users here on FA to drum up a number of fun short stories to help make some points he elaborates on over the course of the book.
Author's launch post on FA: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59037162/
Once again, congratulations to the above authors on their success. The following shout outs go out to a number of writers that I've been keeping up with.
&
- the full "The Erlandia" saga : A riveting set of adventures aboard a steam ship across the Atlantic. Of the three books, I have a hard time deciding whether one or two was my favorite as one really sets the stage where two goes into an interesting quest for vengeance. However, upon reflection, the last few chapters of book three involve an exhilarating naval battle that had me sunk in through to the end. Honestly, it is just difficult to decide a favorite book of the three as they are each their own exciting and engaging experience in their own right.
Full collection of books found on
's page, link to chapter one of book one: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/37770952/
- "Exodimensional Hoofbun Flopsy" (ongoing) : set in the same universe as their "Princess Tells Her Story" (ongoing), Flopsy is a living construct built on Terra and transported to Earth with no way home. Trying to gather her bearings, Flopsy observes that Earth can be just as dangerous as Terra and begins moonlighting as a hero that comes to be known as The Superbunny. While I think I myself enjoy the overall story to Princess more, Flopsy is still a thoroughly engaging story that I'm eagerly awaiting more of.
Link to chapter one: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48709639/
- "The Diary of a Witch Hunter" : written as part of Zak's New Novel November challenge (of which I attempted and failed miserably with slightly adjusted goals). Follows a demon who goes by Sulmir looking to simply settle down in the city of Khorogard. Unfortunately, modern living is a bit difficult to adjust to and even then, demons struggle to fight back against their calling and Sulmir's just so happens to be witch hunting.

Next up are a list of musicians that I've found and tend to listen to while reading posted stories. I will admit, the head bopping does add a slight challenge to reading especially considering I already wear glasses but what can you do?
- composes a lot of EDM pieces that are quite the jam.
PF: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/57955737/
- an absolute master of the piano but does so much more with their works and even sings some of them.
PF: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/10411384/
Also for personal nostalgia: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/9037099/
- similar to Aride above, works primarily with the EDM genre but also has some more serene and calmer pieces.
PF: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/52922738/
- works on a little bit of everything it seems and I wouldn't think their work out of place in a video game soundtrack or as part of a movie's background track during more intense action scenes.
PF: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48616208/

Lastly but certainly not least are a collection of artists that I've found and thoroughly enjoy the work of.
- positively stunning scene work with immaculate attention to detail.
PF: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/45388675/
- an incredible pixel artist capable of things that I could only dream of for my attempts.
PF: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/57721102/
- supremely talented sculptor.
PF: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/44243270/
- plentiful, skillfully drawn fox sketches.
PF: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59103349/
- comics, stickers, ref sheets, and some extraordinary illustrations with a penchant for dragons.
PF: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/43591652/
- an impressive artist and a very pleasant individual to chat with too.
PF: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50407987/

And that concludes this brief list of users I would like to shout out this time. Please, if you have the time, do consider checking them out as I do genuinely find each's hard work and dedication to their own craft impressive, admirable, and well deserving of other's attention.
With all that said and done, I'd like to wish everyone a happy new years once again. Here's hoping that 2025 treats everyone well and we'll all get to do this whole round of yearly greetings in (at the time of drafting this) 364 days.
Feeling lazy but somewhat entertained now,

Dead is Bored... 5
Posted a year agoLast time on "Dead is Bored...": https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10774642
Been a little while, but this is just a short list of shout outs to some writers, musicians, and artists I've found and enjoy the work of.
*PF - personal favorites recommended by FtD to give anyone interested a starting point*
First things first: tipping my hood to
,
, and
for this one; a huge congratulations to:
HelixTheFallen for having completed a series of short stories named Interludes revolving around his fun and lovable cat-witch, Fey, as she goes about her, for lack of a better word, unique life.
Shorts have been divided into individual posts in owner's gallery, but here is a link to the all-in-one post: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/56710054/
Next, a list of other authors who are working on (or even completed) some interesting or fun novels that I'm slowly working my way through. Please excuse my poor summarization of the stories listed below; I certainly do not do the works the justice they deserve but do assure anyone reading this that they are well worth your time. Links go to first chapter of respective novels.
(&
but it's on the former's page) - "The Trials of Erlandia (The Chief Stoker)" (Book 1 of 3): An English ship under a suave and experienced captain is on a journey to post-civil war North America with some "interesting" cargo and some "sociable" passengers.
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/37770952/
(actually included in previous "Dead is Bored..." but I hadn't realized it was an ongoing novel at the time) - "Astray": A space-faring, sci-fi drama revolving around a crew of lions with a simply captivating prologue with some heavy and dark elements.
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/55332451/
- "SOULLESS": Upon waking up in a laboratory without his memory, a dragon-like creature finds that not just the scientists and staff have taken interest in his very existence. Aside from the enthusiastic laboratory employees, some force with substantial authority has taken special interest in the unfortunate creature who cannot even recall his own past. Without knowing who or what is after him, the dragon-like being is quickly thrown into a riveting and death-defying sci-fi adventure on a quest for answers.
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/55406061/
- "Princess Tells Her Story": An exciting and engaging fantasy adventure told from the perspective of a friendly, talking dragon that is content to be a novice mage's loyal sidekick.
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/45521233/
In addition to the above, I'd also like to refer anyone reading through this to the following writers that I've found either through the
or other means.
- https://www.furaffinity.net/view/56511967/

I haven't really been exploring new musicians lately as I've been trying to consume entire galleries of those I've shout out previously. Below are the musicians that I've finally finished sampling all of the content at least in their respective main galleries (some have some scraps pages I need to revisit).
- I'm not too big on rock/metal, but the lighter pieces are relaxing and inspire some vivid scenes in my head.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/52549735/
- Wonderful orchestral tracks that seem to play out entire stories without words.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/55593355/
- Included in the first iteration of "Dead is Bored..." and I will say it again: Wirez has a bit of everything for anyone who enjoys music (and cute animal photos). So many different tracks that it is honestly hard to pick a favorite, though for me it is definitely one of the piano pieces.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/46241618/
And I am currently on a quest to listen to everything in
's gallery... there's a lot (but it is all quite enjoyable, indeed (PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50130009/).
***
Lastly, some artists I've found that have some simply incredible artwork (and some fun animations, too).
- Working on an intriguing fantasy comic that I'm a bit interested in seeing where things go after its intense introduction.
Link to first page of comic - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/55582053/
(also known as Elk) - Met through
's weekend streams and is both a quickly developing artist with a penchant for foxes (especially fennecs) and a pleasant individual to chat with.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/56364661/
- Found through
as they did the cover art for Mekanip's novel "A Chronicle of Lies"; most impressive CG (computer generated) artwork.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/56487644/
- Talented artist that might enjoy the DragonScape universe (Drekir) created by
. Most incredible artwork and fun animations.

Apart from the above shout-outs, I wanted to also take a minute to confusedly celebrate having broken 5000 page views. I'm going to emphasize the "confusedly" in that celebration as the nature of having reached 5000 views is... a little strange to me.
Before I go any further, just a quick note: after a discussion with AndreaJae some time ago now, I recognize that I shouldn't allow the numbers to be my motivation for creating. Still though, that doesn't mean that I don't get a thrill thinking someone else read over one of my dumb stories or took the time to watch one of my stupid pixel art gifs.
With that out of the way, the cause for confusion is the random spike in views my page and past two posts have received. My past two Thursday Prompt posts each received over 500 views in under 48 hours for whatever reason when usually it takes me a full week just to break 100 views on a post. Similarly, my page view count jumped from ~4800 before my latest post to over 5300 at the time of writing this (and a similar jump with the previous post). I'm just baffled as to where that's coming from; nothing I post is really that good or really worth anyone's time, I just enjoy making things. I'm honestly kind of wondering if something is inflating my view count... is someone pranking me?
Whatever the case may be, it was just something I noticed and quirked a brow at wondering what was happening. Having passed 5000 page views is a neat milestone and one I truly hadn't ever anticipated reaching. I would like to take a moment to thank anyone reading over this for simply stopping by: thank you very much for just being here reading over my nonsense. Whether you choose to read through any of my amateur stories or check out any of my silly pixel art attempts, it really does mean a lot you'd just stop by.
Somewhat sleepy and still baffled, but grateful,
FtD

A Word From the Dead
Posted a year agoAddendum: the following is not my own words, but was recommended to me by a very kind individual as a new profile bio.
'Hello! I’m glad you’ve stopped by—trust me, it’s no accident that you’re here. If you’re in pursuit of quality, creativity, and a unique flair, you’ve absolutely come to the right place.
Joking aside, I pride myself on being a unique storyteller and digital artist. While I may jest about my life’s simplicity, it’s this very backdrop that sharpens my focus on creativity. I might once have claimed the title of “socially inept,” but now I channel that unique perspective into everything I create, making art that is as intriguing as it is distinctive.
It took some courage to begin sharing my work, but with a dash of encouragement, I've embraced the thrill of creation. Now, I revel in crafting engaging narratives and quirky pixel art gifs. Discovering the joys of unleashing my imagination has been a game changer.
Thank you for visiting. Whether my creations resonate with you or simply pique your curiosity, your presence here is greatly appreciated. Enjoy exploring the unexpected and entertaining turns of my imagination!'
Addendum: the following are my own words.
So, I woke up this morning to a note from everyone's favorite
(AKA Celtic Kitsune) who has suggested an update to my current profile page (captured above), the current of which I've had up since I started my adventures into pretending I can be creative almost two years ago now. Initially, I admit to kind of thinking it was just a bit of a joke since it essentially takes everything in my current bio and says the polar opposite of that save for the "thanks for stopping by" (that is to say, her suggestion for me is far less self-deprecating and self-doubting). Thing is, it's Celtic; she's actually suggested I give an update to my current profile at least one other time, so I'm inclined to believe she may not quite be joking (at least not entirely).
Whether it was meant to be a joke or a serious recommendation or even a mix of both, it is honestly quite invigorating and leaves me a bit speechless that anyone would take the time to reach out about such a thing. You know you can tell a lot about a person who lives in another country, oceans away, and is willing to put in any effort at all, without anything in it for them, to simply make someone else smile. That's the kind of person Celtic is and that's the kind of person I aspire to be one day.
Anybody who knows me, whether IRL or even over the internet, knows that I am the first to dismiss any of my own efforts for anything, really. Part of it is I read other stories and recognize solely what was done better than what I have done and part of it is just a poor self image. Truthfully, I suppose there's a myriad of reasons for all this, but ultimately the biggest may just be that I'm afraid of being a disappointment so I will unconsciously (and consciously) attempt to convince others that what I do isn't worth their time. In truth, it's gotten to the point where when someone, whether out of curiosity or boredom, elects to watch me that I will thank them in a note that basically says "Thanks for willing to put up with me, means a lot. Not that I really post much of anything worth your time, but I appreciate the thought". In a sense, I think I kind of captured my own personal thoughts on the matter in a short I wrote up for the unofficial Thursday Prompt (led by
) over the 2023 US Thanksgiving holiday (solely if you're curious: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/54614259/).
Well, that's been a lot of rambling from me with no clear direction (social ineptitude strikes again). I decided to drop this here because I wanted to show just how much I appreciate the effort that not just Celtic puts in when they simply stop by my gallery, but also to anybody and everybody else who is here just reading this over. While I can't bring myself to agree that the above, reworked profile accurately portrays me and my antics, it has given me a lot to think about. Most importantly, I've thought on it and decided that I want to at least work to get to a point where I can feel that I'm actually worth such a hype profile. To that end, I'm going to start putting in a bit more effort where I can and I think it starts with leaving this here as a reminder for myself.
With all that said and done, I would first like to thank anyone out there for taking the time, it really means a lot.
Second, this is directed to you specifically Celtic: thanks, for a lot more than just a new profile.
Gratefully,
FtD

Dead is Bored... 4
Posted 2 years agoPreviously on Dead is Bored...: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10733027
First things first: I'm sorry this is late, but happy new years to all.
Just going to hop right into shout-outs this time because this list is relatively brief as it hasn't been too long since the last one.
*PF - Dead's personal favorite by writer/artist/musician to give anyone interested a starting point.
This time, I want to start with pointing everyone to some writers who are currently working on some big time novels or even a series of novels that I've been entirely enchanted by. All of these should be repeated from one of my previous journals, but I like shouting and I like shouting about things I like and each of these stories simply leaves me craving more. Also, my synopses do not at all do the following the justice they deserve, but I do hope someone might take the time to check some of them out to see for themselves just how polished and beautiful a story the following writers have started.
, better known as Mekanip: "A Chronicle of Lies" - After a freak accident on the drive home, a young man awakens to find himself in a breathtaking new world that has seen its fair share of hardship and past devastation. However, not only is his new world unfamiliar, his own skin is now entirely foreign as he resembles the dragon-like creatures that inhabit this strange planet. Surely it's all just a cringe-inducing dream cooked up by the schizophrenia he's had to endure since he was a child... isn't it?
Link to story's page on Royal Road: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/6.....onicle-of-lies
: "Onyxsoul" - For ages now, the last of the dragons have lived in a secluded region far from the lands of the humans. However, following "The Dream", the large, flying, fire-spewing reptiles have taken it upon themselves to end this separation between the species. Unfortunately, a young dragoness, barely an adult, makes a truly heart-wrenching and mortifying discovery as she performs her first duty toward fulfilling The Dream: some have found a more permanent means of ending the separation between man and dragon... through blood.
Link to prologue: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/51539168/
: "Synthetic" - Life in a city under the rule of a rather radical theocracy is by no means easy and one really needs time to simply sit back and breathe. However, after getting caught up in a tragic incident that left them near death, a facilities technician finds that life under the rule of the crazed government can get much, much worse. While they agreed to a procedure that ultimately saved their life, they have to wonder if it is even their life they are living anymore...

I'd also like to point out a few other writers I found that are doing their own thing.

I'm afraid I only have one musician to shout-out this time as I still want to delve a little deeper into the works of those I mentioned in my previous journal.
- amazing orchestral tracks that always have me imagining scenes straight out of a fantasy-adventure type story or film.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/20975896/

Lastly, I've mentioned it before, but I have a difficult time figuring out what I like about most artwork, so I only have two names to shout-out for artworks this go round. Finding artistic talent on this site is by no means a challenge, but I do always love images that help put together a story for me. A picture is worth a thousand words, right?
- Doesn't post but so often, but in all honesty Psionic's works are what triggered my interest in attempting pixel art. Although it is abundantly clear that I do not have anywhere near the same skill as Psionic, their works just speak to me more as a "just have fun with it" type of thing.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/53252396
, also known as Strand - Actually does photography and not the usual pen & paper or paint or so on and on art, but they know just how to frame a picture. The images they caught of Fonthill Castle immediately gave me ideas for several shorts ranging from a murder mystery to a Dracula-esque monster thing. Has also just proven a friendly individual as I have had the pleasure of speaking with them through
's weekend art streams.

In conjunction with the above shout-outs and new year's greeting, I also feel like stating a few new year's resolutions of mine. (What? Hitting the gym? Hey, that was mine last year and I actually did... okay for a while at least! (That is another one this year, but I'm getting off topic.))
I've two resolutions this year that I am hoping to at least give a strong effort before ultimately falling short again that I am also hoping will help me improve in writing, pixel art-ing, and just generally focusing on something for more time than it takes me to--hey, a shiny nickel! (That.)
Honestly, this one was meant as a bit of a joke for myself until 'it' actually happened. 'It' was more or less just a I-wanted-to-see-if-I-could thing: I got my story "Heart of a True Monster" posted on Royal Road. Did not actually see it getting on there, but it was accepted and after the initial stunned surprise passed, I started setting up weekly updates. I'm hoping that the weekly updates will act as a sort of deadline for me to really knuckle down and get future chapters complete as I really want to at least finish Act II by the end of February (doable, but I know me and that goal is not the most realistic).
My second resolution is to work up the nerve to attempt streaming pixel art attempts. Hanging out in
's streams had just been a lot of fun and it got me thinking that maybe I will actually finish some of the silly gifs I start if I were to stream them or maybe it would be fun to stream
attempts. Honestly though, I have actually attempted to start streaming already but would hover over the "start stream" button for a solid ten minutes before just backing out so this resolution may have been broken before I even considered it.
That's about all I had this time and I am starting to struggle to keep my eyes open right now so I'm off to bed.

Dead is Bored... 3
Posted 2 years agoPrevious iteration of "Dead is Bored...": https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10586591/
Been a little while and I'm feeling simultaneously bored, accomplished, and stressed out (work's been busy (good, just really busy)). To that end, I decided what better way to relieve boredom, celebrate accomplishment, and remedy stress than to shout to the world about things that I enjoy?
Before I get started this time, I just wanted to take a moment to say "thank you" to anyone and everyone stopping by. Recently, out of curiosity, I checked my stats and found one of my posts broke 300 views. A kind soul had told me not to fret too much over the numbers, and I'm doing better at that, but just knowing that someone took the time to so much as just click on something of mine is a thrill that is simply out of this world. I'll never say that anything I post is quality, but it is fun to make and I'm grateful anyone might just glaze over it. With that in mind, thank you for simply stopping by.
Now then:
*PF - Dead's personal favorites by artist/musician/writer as recommendation for giving anyone interested a starting point.*
Like last time, let's start with something big:
Through
, I found out about the The Voice of Dog podcast. Basically, the podcast uses submissions of short stories and puts it into audiobook format for your listening pleasure (great for listening when doing chores or on long drives). I'll listen from time to time and lately I've noticed some names I actually recognize from here on FA having their stories read on the show. Personally, I find the narration has quite the charm by adding emotion into dialogue delivery; an example would be in
's submission to the podcast where the narrator gave her cybernetic vixen character a digitized, robotic, and monotone voice that really brought the whole reading together.
Writers for the show that I've recognized:

I think I'm slowly coming to the realization that I don't know what I like in artworks and tend to gravitate toward music and stories when online. That said, I do keep up with a few artists and find the following absolutely phenomenal.

Dead is Bored... 2
Posted 2 years agoDead is Bored Pt. #1: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10469478/
Dead is bored… again. Well, less so than he was last time he did this (it’s just the shtick he’s sticking with).
So, today marks one full year of pretending I can write stories and make silly pixel art animations. One full year of posting my nonsense and one full year of actually being active on the site. It’s been quite a thrill ride with the only lows really being my own insecurities and paranoia telling me to just stop (still beating that back for now). Anyways, to celebrate my “FA Birthday”, I thought what better way to celebrate than to direct everyone who reads through this to artists, writers, musicians, and more that I find incredibly talented and am personally always looking forward to hearing more from.
*PF – personal favorites recommended by FtD to give anyone interested a starting point*
This time, I want to start with something special:
- An extremely talented glass sculptor. They’ve an extraordinary collection of pieces they’ve put together and each and every one of them are absolutely phenomenal.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50891352/
- Does occasionally write some shorts which I find quite imaginative, but I also like to pop into their Twitch stream whenever I can. (https://www.twitch.tv/adelen_solyra)
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/51235621/
***
Something I love doing when I’m just browsing the site or reading over other’s stories is listen to some music and the following users make some positively incredible tunes to listen to:
- A modern day Mozart with scales and horns. A wonderfully talented musician that does classical pieces. I want to put his stuff in that game “Beat Saber”… yes, classical music in a fast-paced, rhythm game because that just sounds amazing.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50402547/
- Mostly does writing, but recently started posting some great guitar tracks that help me visualize some fascinating scenes in my head.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/52334784/
- Honestly, I kind of forgot how I found JTomic as I’m not that big on Electronic music, but I’m glad I did. Since having found him, my playlist on Spotify for when I’m going for jogs is now peppered with some of his stuff.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/49964690/
- Been a bit quiet for a while, but does have some great tunes that I’ve gone back and listened to from time to time.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/51408619/
- I’m not huge on anime (too short of an attention span to get invested), but nobody can deny that anime themes are amazing. Wesley’s work is typically that fast-paced, high energy deal that goes perfectly with fight scenes or beautiful scenic views that one would probably expect from big-time animes.

Although the most abundant artistic media on the site is more traditional artwork, whether sketches or paintings or digital, I have a hard time deciding on what I like in artwork. Plenty of the images I find are impressive and vastly superior to anything that I could ever hope to create, but the following are just a few artists that I personally keep up with.
- Sketches and paintings: beautiful scenery, still images, and even portraits.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/51161062/
- Nearly everything Folvo draws up will almost immediately trigger one to six different stories in my head.
PF – https://www.furaffinity.net/view/41310809/
- If you decide to check out my personal favorite from Silver, I just want you to know that they claimed it was one of their “simpler” pieces… yeah, nothing shy of outstanding.

Finally, a collection of some of the writers who have caught my attention. Honestly, this part is the thing that was keeping me from putting together this iteration of “Dead is Bored” because I am a very insecure individual and find just about anything from the following far superior to any of my attempts at writing. I get everyone has their own style, but I do genuinely suffer some rather jealous notions just reading through their work. I’m trying to push past that, but that’s a work in progress and I’m hoping that sharing this might help be a step in the right direction for getting over my own personal flaws. I will not be sharing what exactly I enjoy about their stories as some vary with themes and I also do want anyone reading through this to check the following out sometime.

Alright, that’s far more than I, and probably everyone else, expected from this one, but it’s been a little while since the last one. This has been “Dead is Bored 2” and I do strongly urge anyone reading over it to take a minute to check out some of the individuals listed here; they are all incredible at what they do and the few I’ve had some form of communication with have been very pleasant to speak with.

Inside Dead's Head
Posted 2 years agoSo this was done at
's suggestion: a short list of my story universes and what the deal is with them. I'm going to at least try not to downplay my stuff (if you know me, you know I'm really good at doing that).
Heart of a True Monster:
For almost twenty years, a rebellion has raged across the far reaches of the Empire. Citizens have long since grown to despise the people responsible for the tumult within the otherwise peaceful nation: the minotaur species. Humans view the bovid-like race as nothing more than savage beasts hellbent on destroying their civilization. However, despite the damages done by the minotaurs, a young minotaur has lived her entire life alongside her adopted, human father in an Empire-loyalist village. Unfortunately, her life is about to change dramatically due to some unfortunate circumstances.
Severed Roads:
*Choose Your Own Adventure elements*
Two weeks after what would become the end of the world, a group of survivors struggle not just with the monsters wandering the streets, but also having to put up with one another. The team of four have recently managed to contact the military to ask for evacuation from the infested city they once led relatively normal lives in. Unfortunately, their extraction can only take place on the other side of town and they must fight their way through the darkened streets before they are left behind. Unofficially led by a former police officer, the team set out in search of their salvation only to quickly find that every decision they make may be their last.
The Darkest Oceans:
Grace Marlow's life had never been exactly normal, but she had always managed to keep her head up. That is, until the day came that the organization her brother worked for came to tell her what happened during his recent assignment. Devastated and confused, the lioness had silently resolved to take up her brother's mantle and fulfill his mission. Under the tutelage of her adopted father and Director of Operations, Grace has launched her own mission to not just succeed her brother, but also find the only flesh and blood family she has left.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Shorts that might spin off into something of their own later:
A Lifetime Spent Down Memory Lane: A simple canine finds himself wandering a seemingly never-ending road to nowhere and strangely followed by a peculiar woman that pretends to know him for some reason...
Shedding Scales: After a train derailed on his way home, a man wakes up to find that the only way to save his life was a life, and body, altering therapy.
The Self in the Mirror: Everyday at work or at home is plain and simple, but that's fine. Hmm... maybe even a little too fine. So fine, in fact, that now I'm talking to that irritating reflection in the mirror... (Honestly, less a story and more internal screaming turned into text... I'm okay!)
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
*Sighs deeply. Leans to the side and eyes shift over to the artic fox sitting on her haunches upon a short stool nearby.*
"D... did I do it right?" he whispered to the fox.
*The only response given is an audible beep.*
"O-oh... r-right... Uhm... y-yeah, I-I can do this... I can... maybe do this," he stuttered...
I've already mentioned it, but Dead hates being bored and again
gave me this idea (just less directly this time). This sounded like a fun idea, but at the same time I'm immeasurably uncertain about it. Well, might as well live a little, right?
I'm not an especially interesting person (in all honesty, simply having a presence on FA is probably my most interesting characteristic), but since we're already in my head right now, how about we make this an "Ask Me Anything" journal as well? Honestly, probably get more interesting answers from my characters, so ask them something if you feel like it. Not sure how far this is gonna go, but it sounded like it would be fun to try at least.

Dead is Bored...
Posted 2 years agoAnd bored is Dead. And Dead hates only a few things more than being bored. So, Dead had an idea that sounded entertaining:
Honestly, had this idea for a little while but what got me to act on it was that wholesome ad that's floating around that was put out by
. If you haven't seen it yet, the ad is Deadish riding a conveyor belt essentially telling you not to worry about view counts and just keep posting whatever it is you like to post (something I've needed to be told multiple times already (you know who you are)). It ends with a quick little "spread the love" message and that's basically what this journal is going to be because I like talking about things I enjoy.
*Addendum - journal has since been updated with Personal Favorites (PF) as way of recommendation*
Since I started my little adventure on FA pretending I know how to write (I don't, but pretending's fun), let's start with some of my favorite writers:
- The first person I ever spoke to on the site, my unofficial writing coach, and the grandmaster of description and detail. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Helix is capable of giving you an entire Hollywood blockbuster movie in about three hundred.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/49637065/
- His Thursday Prompts are always a great way to get a quick laugh as he seems to love light-hearted jokes and playing with reader expectations. He often times posts his other lengthier works and his own personal shorts which keep you wondering what's coming next.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/49847457/
- Head of the Thursday Prompt group and proprietor of the Whackadoodle Inn. Vixyy's stories are entertaining with light-hearted jokes but also maintains a degree of relatability that makes the reader reflect a bit on their own thoughts and experiences.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50068377/
- Pretty much the whole reason I even started actually posting to the Thursday Prompt and talking to others on the site. I'm a huge fan of their ongoing story "Ghost in the Machine" for its conflicting dark and cheery chapters, but loved their romantic "If Only for a Night" saga. I am absolutely, one-hundred-percent definitely ninety-six-percent certain that this artic fox is NOT an AI... anybody else hear beeping?
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/49917311/
- Host of the blog "Life with a Werewolf" which is filled with all sorts of fun adventures and wacky characters that is sure to keep you invested. I actually saw a comment a while back that said something to the effect that Lu's blog is great for jumpstarting the imagination and I couldn't agree more with that statement.
PF - His blog in general, but this is probably his most heart-wrenching piece with which I can personally relate: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/49882142/
- Met through the Thursday Prompt and I really enjoy their contributions each week. Usually kept fairly brief, Silent still manages to give you enough detail to picture the entire story as if you were in the room as it unfolds.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50231860/
- I actually already recommended his work, but I'll do it twenty more times if I need to. Although he's only posted one story on his page, I thoroughly enjoyed it (I've read through it in its entirety three times now (I tend to obsess over things I like to a, quite frankly, unhealthy degree)).
PF - The whole story in general but here's a link to the first chapter: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50531975/
***
If one were to comb through my favorites page, they'd probably find most of the stuff I favorite is music and this site has no shortage of talented mucisians:
- Why are you still here? This wolf's music is so good you should be listening to it right now and not reading this. I haven't been through all of it, but I've yet to find a single track that I don't immediately fall in love with. I highly recommend setting aside an afternoon just to listen to his piano pieces. On loop.
PF - ALL OF IT......... (I guess I should pick one: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/4201686/)
- Go with me on this one: Wirez is basically that popular ice cream parlor downtown that everybody loves because it's got over 600 different flavors, generous portion sizes, and the walls are decorated with cute animal photos. He's got a little something for everyone who enjoys music (and cute animal photos).
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/14530382/
- If you told me that Yagami's music was a part of a new triple A videogame's soundtrack or from some hit movie, I'd believe it. Often times, I'll close my eyes while listening to his stuff and it's like I can see the music creating a fitting scene in my head.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48893099/
- Similar to Yagami, Nojiyu's work wouldn't be out of place in a videogame, but there's a distinct preference for old school rpg style soundtracks. Also has what I think might be the coolest inspirational quote ever on their userpage (not sharing what it is because I want you to check them out sometime).
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48733803/
***
Since it's probably clear that I enjoy practicing pixel art, I've also scouted out a few, real pixel artists that leave me both green with envy over how talented they are and inspired to keep working on my own silly little attempts at being artistic:
- Basically what I wish I could do. Makes pixel art seem easy by keeping things relatively simple looking, but then goes and adds in enough detail and superb effects to make your eyes go wide like an enchanted child watching their first fireworks show.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/45704762/
- Again, basically what I wish I could accomplish. The level of detail put into these pieces is entirely immaculate; I can scarcely imagine how long it takes to finally perfect each individual frame.
PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/49319164/
***
Alright, that's probably more than anybody expected (or cared) to hear from me. I'll either tack onto this journal later as I find more works that I enjoy or make a part 2 (deciding on that is future Dead's problem).
Thanks all for stopping by, hope you have a great day.

- Met through the Thursday Prompt and I really enjoy their contributions each week. Usually kept fairly brief, Silent still manages to give you enough detail to picture the entire story as if you were in the room as it unfolds.PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50231860/
- I actually already recommended his work, but I'll do it twenty more times if I need to. Although he's only posted one story on his page, I thoroughly enjoyed it (I've read through it in its entirety three times now (I tend to obsess over things I like to a, quite frankly, unhealthy degree)).PF - The whole story in general but here's a link to the first chapter: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50531975/

On loop.PF - ALL OF IT.........
He's got a little something for everyone who enjoys music (and cute animal photos).PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/14530382/
- If you told me that Yagami's music was a part of a new triple A videogame's soundtrack or from some hit movie, I'd believe it. Often times, I'll close my eyes while listening to his stuff and it's like I can see the music creating a fitting scene in my head.PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48893099/
- Similar to Yagami, Nojiyu's work wouldn't be out of place in a videogame, but there's a distinct preference for old school rpg style soundtracks. Also has what I think might be the coolest inspirational quote ever on their userpage (not sharing what it is because I want you to check them out sometime).PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48733803/

Since it's probably clear that I enjoy practicing pixel art, I've also scouted out a few, real pixel artists that leave me both green with envy over how talented they are and inspired to keep working on my own silly little attempts at being artistic:
- Basically what I wish I could do. Makes pixel art seem easy by keeping things relatively simple looking, but then goes and adds in enough detail and superb effects to make your eyes go wide like an enchanted child watching their first fireworks show.PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/45704762/
- Again, basically what I wish I could accomplish. The level of detail put into these pieces is entirely immaculate; I can scarcely imagine how long it takes to finally perfect each individual frame.PF - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/49319164/

Alright, that's probably more than anybody expected (or cared) to hear from me. I'll either tack onto this journal later as I find more works that I enjoy or make a part 2 (deciding on that is future Dead's problem).
Thanks all for stopping by, hope you have a great day.

For Once, I'm Going to Take the Initiative
Posted 3 years agoHello all, here's hoping the holiday season is treating everyone well.
I don't really know where to start this as I probably just sound like a broken record at this point. I'll just come out with it then: thank you all once more for the warm welcome to the creative writing scene, the
ThursdayPrompt group, and just using FA in general. I've mentioned it previously that I did not expect such an encouraging reception nor such support to keep at it. To be entirely honest, I thought I was just going to make this gallery my little collection of stupidity, and it is, but in a much more invigorating and exhilarating fashion than I could have dreamed.
My last three journals were all "Thank you so much" type deals to celebrate some sort of view count milestone. Well, after a short discussion with
(if you haven't already, do yourself a favor and listen to this wolf's music; "absolutely sublime" does not begin to cover it), I now recognize that the views wasn't something that I needed to begin with. Please don't misunderstand me: I do still get a bit giddy seeing that someone else decided "ehh, I guess I got time to kill. I'll check out this dork's stuff" but even if it were just the same one, two, or three people, it would still all be worthwhile.
I haven't a viewership milestone to celebrate this time and I think I'm far happier thanking everyone without the need for something so trivial. This time, I just want to thank everyone who is reading this for just being here.
In addition to yet another sappy thank you speech, I would also like to announce an upcoming, personal celebration of mine. You might not believe it, but December 24th, Christmas Eve, will mark six months of being an active user on FA. Half a friggin' year! That by itself is another reason to thank everyone for the support; I definitely would not have managed that without the friendly and encouraging atmosphere. But I digress, I am not only preparing to celebrate my first six months on FA (while being active), but also the fact that I have just finished drafting Chapter 30 of my "A Story" (real title pending) series.
With that in mind, I hope to have one chapter from each of the three projects I am currently working on completed and ready to share by Dec. 24th. In the meantime, whether you might be interested or not, I was hoping to share just a small snippet of each as they are in their current states:
A Story, Ch. 13 - Welcome Wagon:
“RGH! How is this possible?! Pain?! From the likes of you?! What the hell are you?!” the unspeakable horror from beyond ironically asked Aridean as she slowly got back on her hooves. “No matter. I already told you; I’m saving you as a delicious treat after my vessel is complete. But I suppose I’ll just have to tenderize you first!”
Severed Roads, Ch. 7; Road B - We're All That's Left:
“Marshal! It’s been two weeks of this! If anything, we’re lucky nobody’s come and beat us to the punch!” retorted an authoritative Omen. His expression only softened slightly as his shoulders relaxed, “We’re all that’s left, son. Like it or not: we’re all that’s comin’.”
“A-after tonight… I don’t think anyone else could have made it through all that… I... I still don't know how we did...” Lab-rat quietly added while shuddering. A modest amount of shock filled Marshal’s face as he examined the sullen rat.
*Lab-rat… girl, I thought you’d be on my side here…* the dalmatian mentally lamented.
(Tentative title) The Darkest Oceans, Ch. 1 - Countdown:
“Y-you know that’s not something I can promise, sir,” Grace anxiously replied with a kind smile. Regardless, the lioness took the bear’s hand in her own. Even when Ben’s grip loosened, Grace’s held firm. She moved in closer and wrapped an arm around the tall bear’s neck. A wry smile worked its way across the bear’s graying muzzle.
“Let an old man dream, Specialist,” Ben spoke as one hand wrapped its way around Grace’s back. His other hand, however, moved to push his spectacles out of the way as he wiped his damp eyes.
Phew! That was a lot more out of me than I thought I was even capable of... I'll just sum things up one more time: thank you all once more for simply stopping by if even by mistake. I very much appreciate you just taking a moment or two to simply peruse my nonsense.
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays or happy whatever it is you choose to celebrate if you choose to celebrate anything at all.
Truly contented,
FtD

A Day Late, But...
Posted 3 years agoI let this opportunity slip right past me and I first want to apologize. I got 1,000 views on my page just yesterday and I didn't really know how to respond to that one. I wanted to say 'thank you so much', but the paranoia and insecurities got to me first. Is saying 'thank you' really enough? I've already said it twice over; how would I say it any differently this time? Does me saying 'thank you' actually mean anything anyway?
Clearly, my conversational skills need some (monumental) improvement. Not sure if I'm ever actually going to make an effort to work on them though. Being quiet is just easier and less... frightening, I suppose? Not much scares me more than attempting to be social.
(This guy's not a social butterfly? *entirely monotone* Shocking...)
Regardless, if you're still here, I do want to express my thanks for simply giving my stuff a survey or even just a passing glance. I'll be the first to say that nothing you find on my page will be especially well done or original or interesting or (etc...), but it has been hours of entertainment for me. Having the opportunity to share it all has been such a thrill even when I continue to fret over actually submitting it.
Just to sum things up: I'm sorry I'm not very good at communication but please know that I am always grateful that you have decided to spend even just a picosecond of your day looking at what I've come up with.
Gratefully,
FtD

A More Punctual Thank You
Posted 3 years agoMy mind has been blown away yet again. One of my posts, just last night, reached 200 views. It was my first
Thursday_Prompt attempt, "Trying Something". Basically, the story was I just recapped the night I finally decided I would post something on FA.
I'm blown away. I said it before and I'm going to say it again: I never imagined anything like that. To know that people see my stuff and decide to take the time to just look it over... then some go one step further while thinking "ehh, it's alright I suppose," and favorite it? It genuinely makes me feel like a best selling author and I'm no real writer, I just do this because I find it fun. If there truly is a means to describe how grateful I am, it absolutely eludes me at this time.
Thank you again, not just for looking at my garbage, but such a kind welcome to actually using the website. I might not be the most social (mainly because I'm afraid I'm one of those "speak before you think" types), but I do want anyone who sees this to know that I am glad they stopped by if even by accident. This has not been the experience I expected, but it has pleasantly surprised me time and time again.
The word for the prompt that week was "consequences". I guess I just wanted to say that the consequences of some actions aren't always bad despite how negative the word "consequence" sounds.
Looking forward to next time,
FtD

An Overdue Thank You
Posted 3 years agoAt the time of writing this, I'm still basically new to making posts on the site despite having had the account for some years now. I honestly never thought I'd go through with something like actually pretending I know how to write or be artsy and fun. The idea that I'd ever post anything is still even more inconceivable to me.
I thought I was content to just skulk from gallery to gallery. I'd just silently watch others with real talent as they demonstrate their creative prowess and ability. To be honest, I was a fair bit jealous to see others posting anything from crafts to stories to masterful artworks that had shown just how much care and passion they put into their projects. Maybe it was more I was jealous that they had a passion; I've never been, strictly speaking, passionate about anything.
I don't know what changed but I just decided I'm just going to go for it. I don't think I've ever been more anxious in my life than the night I had my mouse hovering over the the submission button. It honestly had me a bit scared because stress usually doesn't get to me. I debated deleting it the instant I finally clicked submit for a quite a while. But I didn't delete it. In fact, I actually got some support to keep going. After the stunned surprise had passed, I felt like things were okay, maybe even great.
Anyways, I mainly wanted to just leave a message here for anyone who has been keeping up with my waste of time gallery. About two weeks ago, one of my posts broke 100 views. Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine getting more than 20 views. While I cannot guarantee that all of those views support what I'm doing, I cannot string together enough words to accurately describe what it means to me that people just are taking the time to check out my stuff.
In short, this is meant to be a big "thank you" to anyone and everyone who decides to look over my things. Even if no one truly likes what I post, I'm at least able to convince myself that someone might be looking at it and think "well, it's not terrible."
All that said, thank you for stopping by. I've been having so much fun with this and I look forward to continuing even if I still stress over the submit button for no less than 10 minutes before finally clicking.
