Lol this reminds me of when I was in elementary school. Teacher was asking around the room. Typical teacher stuff. Finally called out to the class troublemaker. To which he angerly replies...
"But I haven't done anything yet!" So sure he was going to be accused of what he was about to to, he outed himself on the fact he was about to do it.

Sort of makes me wonder if Nigel ever tried to find another path in life in this village or did his past prevent that?

Even if Nigel is being a complete jerk to Miralle and Chili here, I still feel sorry for him for what he went through, and it's such a shame to see him this way. Leaving that aside, I have to say that Miralle and Chili look great as young adults here, especially the former; amazing page and amazing work by the way.
If I recall correctly, it was because the only reason he had at the time as a kid for being a Guardian was basically because his parents wanted him to. He was told that he could still qualify if he took the time to think of a better one and he was actually ok with that. It was his parents who wouldn't accept a retry, ignored him and started giving his little brother the favorite child treatment to gear them up for the Guardian role.
Such a colorful page. I would have expect the word balloons to be filled with French. This very much felt like bandes desinee I am really looking forward on the progression of the story. Some day, I want to buy this as a hard back, sitting in a comfy, high backed, chair, some winter.
