...and this is why wolfcats don't build computers (Update...
For those of you following my computer building fiasco from yesterday, I have good news! (See previous journal if you are not sure what I'm referring to)
So after going to a professional computer shop, the repairman fixed it-
...in 30 MINUTES. Yeah.
I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry when he told me how quickly he fixed it. Yet I struggled for nearly two days getting that much done.
I asked him how long it took and he said it was easy. He said he would have been done sooner, but he had to tidy up all the cables for me. Apparently he was not pleased with my cable arrangement, or lack of, haha.
But let's get to the important matters; here is what I did I wrong:
-The RAM was not firmly pushed down in place (hence the DRAM error light)
-Partial power due to the cpu cable not all the way in
-Some of the wiring was off
Also, he told me that even with the new ryzen 5 processor, the bios did NOT need to updated! It was ready to go!
Overall, he said I did very good for my first time building a pc. He even checked the placement of the processor, motherboard- they were perfect! He is even going to show me how and what he fixed it so I can know what not to do next time! He also assured me that no, building a pc is not that easy. I don't feel like a complete failure now.
As I am typing this journal, he is currently installing Windows 10 on it, then it will be ready for pick up this afternoon.
And because he is a gamer too (He plays WoW, along with Halo, D&D, etc), he took mercy on me and is not charging much since it was a quick fix for him. We actually spent more time discussing video games than my pc! Lol.
So...yeah! I feel relieved that none of the parts were duds or I did not screw up anything too badly. Also big thank you to: feilong for offering tech support!!!
Along with everyone else's input and support.
I will definitely show pictures of my beast, along with specs, once it gets home later~

Mentioned that RAM need a surprisingly strong shove, but I think it's OK to play it safe.
You'll do perfectly fine on your next build, don't worry about it.
Have fun on your holidays, good days full of games are coming ♥
I told him I was nervous pushing the RAM in the slots because I was afraid I would break them, but he said the same thing you did: you have to give them a strong shove until you here a "clicking" sound.
This experience definitely taught me alot about building computer.
I am very glad for you that everything was resolved so easily and quickly с:
The previous journal made me worry about this situation, I feel your emotions
*hugs*
I am so glad everything worked out well, and most importantly, I did not have to spend alot of money fixing my computer. It was a stressful situation to say the least
Now to get in some gaming, haha
Maybe if you're into it, I'm looking for a fireteam for Halo Infinite :3
I don't play Halo, sorry! Never got into it- now the computer guy that fixed my pc? He's big into Halo, lol. I mostly play WoW, though I'm looking into playing FF soon. I'm about to check Steam and see what games they have on sale: I really need to play on there more
I'm lucky to be alive haha.
And it's alright. I hope you enjoy your new computer! If you allow me a suggestion, check GOG for great games at great prices. They have a sale right now.
Nice to hear things work now ~
I have not really had a chance to play or use my build yet, but I am very happy with it so far~
I hope it'll bring you many years of joy ~
I also had a hair razing experience when I was switching over to a SSD to use as my boot drive instead of a hard drive. I tried copying over the Windows 10 OS instead of installing from a flash drive, because I thought I was being smart, and ended up messing up bad enough to nearly brick the hard drive. Don't know how I manged to do that, but it never booted from it ever again.
I told him and some of my other friends the same thing- I was so afraid of breaking the sticks or the motherboard if I pushed it in too hard; I am thinking it's a delicate object. Yeah, funny how it not being shoved in there properly can cause a headache!
But needless to say, I think I will leave building to the pros from now on
My first build was back in 1998, all parts from used computers from Boeing! (grandpa was a machinists and I had dibs on all the surplus) let's just say I've learned many of hard lessons.. Cracked mobo pushing card in, fried parts from them not in all the way, even fried a card from a loose led light strip that was unprotected at the end.. But I learned and never did it wrong again!
I'm glad your computer didn't decide to give you a nice firework show in celebration for your first build! It's a nice thought but not very fun when computers try too have much celebration.
The guy made it look easy cause he does it for a living. It's not easy, haha. You have to know what you're doing (or have the cash to burn if you screw up bad and have to replace parts), and be able to pull it off. It gets easier with experience~
Also now you have someone IRL you can go to when you have computer issues. Yay business relationships~ :D
But you're right- I got myself a new computer guy to fix my issues and he's a gamer? Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience. And I love my new pc! Was gaming on it yesterday: no lag or having to close discord, chrome, and other background apps due to lag
Teasing and jokes aside, I'm glad you found a solution to the problem. Especially now, not having a stable computer is hell.
Also, there's no learning without pain. There was enough pain for you to learn, but no more than there needed to be!! So that's awesome and I'm super happy for you! <3
Meanwhile I'm worried about if anything is broken- no, he's upset that the cables look like a tangled, hot mess, LOL
If it works, I don't think it matters, but several others will definitely disagree with us
