For Once, I'm Going to Take the Initiative
3 years ago
Hello all, here's hoping the holiday season is treating everyone well.
I don't really know where to start this as I probably just sound like a broken record at this point. I'll just come out with it then: thank you all once more for the warm welcome to the creative writing scene, the
ThursdayPrompt group, and just using FA in general. I've mentioned it previously that I did not expect such an encouraging reception nor such support to keep at it. To be entirely honest, I thought I was just going to make this gallery my little collection of stupidity, and it is, but in a much more invigorating and exhilarating fashion than I could have dreamed.
My last three journals were all "Thank you so much" type deals to celebrate some sort of view count milestone. Well, after a short discussion with
(if you haven't already, do yourself a favor and listen to this wolf's music; "absolutely sublime" does not begin to cover it), I now recognize that the views wasn't something that I needed to begin with. Please don't misunderstand me: I do still get a bit giddy seeing that someone else decided "ehh, I guess I got time to kill. I'll check out this dork's stuff" but even if it were just the same one, two, or three people, it would still all be worthwhile.
I haven't a viewership milestone to celebrate this time and I think I'm far happier thanking everyone without the need for something so trivial. This time, I just want to thank everyone who is reading this for just being here.
In addition to yet another sappy thank you speech, I would also like to announce an upcoming, personal celebration of mine. You might not believe it, but December 24th, Christmas Eve, will mark six months of being an active user on FA. Half a friggin' year! That by itself is another reason to thank everyone for the support; I definitely would not have managed that without the friendly and encouraging atmosphere. But I digress, I am not only preparing to celebrate my first six months on FA (while being active), but also the fact that I have just finished drafting Chapter 30 of my "A Story" (real title pending) series.
With that in mind, I hope to have one chapter from each of the three projects I am currently working on completed and ready to share by Dec. 24th. In the meantime, whether you might be interested or not, I was hoping to share just a small snippet of each as they are in their current states:
A Story, Ch. 13 - Welcome Wagon:
“RGH! How is this possible?! Pain?! From the likes of you?! What the hell are you?!” the unspeakable horror from beyond ironically asked Aridean as she slowly got back on her hooves. “No matter. I already told you; I’m saving you as a delicious treat after my vessel is complete. But I suppose I’ll just have to tenderize you first!”
Severed Roads, Ch. 7; Road B - We're All That's Left:
“Marshal! It’s been two weeks of this! If anything, we’re lucky nobody’s come and beat us to the punch!” retorted an authoritative Omen. His expression only softened slightly as his shoulders relaxed, “We’re all that’s left, son. Like it or not: we’re all that’s comin’.”
“A-after tonight… I don’t think anyone else could have made it through all that… I... I still don't know how we did...” Lab-rat quietly added while shuddering. A modest amount of shock filled Marshal’s face as he examined the sullen rat.
*Lab-rat… girl, I thought you’d be on my side here…* the dalmatian mentally lamented.
(Tentative title) The Darkest Oceans, Ch. 1 - Countdown:
“Y-you know that’s not something I can promise, sir,” Grace anxiously replied with a kind smile. Regardless, the lioness took the bear’s hand in her own. Even when Ben’s grip loosened, Grace’s held firm. She moved in closer and wrapped an arm around the tall bear’s neck. A wry smile worked its way across the bear’s graying muzzle.
“Let an old man dream, Specialist,” Ben spoke as one hand wrapped its way around Grace’s back. His other hand, however, moved to push his spectacles out of the way as he wiped his damp eyes.
Phew! That was a lot more out of me than I thought I was even capable of... I'll just sum things up one more time: thank you all once more for simply stopping by if even by mistake. I very much appreciate you just taking a moment or two to simply peruse my nonsense.
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays or happy whatever it is you choose to celebrate if you choose to celebrate anything at all.
Truly contented,
FtD
