yes this means that a president could technically order a political opponent assassinated and it's only AFTER the act happens that it'll be decided if it was covered by immunity from prosecution or not.
SCOTUS walks back their decision -- Democrats breathe a sigh of relief
SCOTUS stands by their ruling -- NO MORE DONALD TRUMP! Also, the ruling would only be used in extreme situations in order to preserve American democracy and save it from people like The Wannabe American Dictator (I'd call that the Mockingjay Protocol since it sounds like something out of The Hunger Games, lol)
In your shoes I'd leave the country a nice package of my own making before fleeing to the other side of the globe.
On the one hand, had the incident gone as planned, it would essentially decapitate the entire conservative movement. Trump is the singular point of failure of the entire system that depends on preying on the weak while simultaneously lying to them that they are the only ones that could save the people's way of life.
On the other hand, the same alternate timeline WILL have Trump as a martyr and the violence that the alternates will accomplish would be unpredictable and potentially incalculable. It would probably drive the country into total civil war with at least a third of the American IF NOT GLOBAL population dead.
That said, a parting gift would be somewhere on the lines of poisoning the blood of the country in a more literal sense than anything imaginable. An example would be something like what happened in The Dalles, OR in 1984, but on a national level. An even more extreme idea would be the sudden rise of radioactive isotopes in the national water supply.
