Retro Gamer question: What classic game deserves a remak...
Since numerous past games are getting modern remakes (both by official licenses and fandoms), what classic game from years past would you like to see remade?
respond with the name of the game, the system it was on and why.
FA+

Cro- wait damn it.
Duckt- wait shit.
For real though, Guardian Heroes (Sega Saturn) either needs a definitive multi-platform rerelease (They did it for Radiant Silvergun I mean wtf) or the Remake from Xbox Live to go to steam or something. I mean goddamn. I wrote a wholeass Article for a Zine about Guardian Heroes and why I love it which pretty well sums up my feelings on the game but like...
At the end of (my favorite) one ending, you literally Team Up with a former villain and punch out God, then look down fro Heaven and basically say "Yup, this world's fate is now ours to make." Classic.
I played those games until they were no longer playable on the OS.
System it was On: SEGA Genesis
Why: Hard to say, really. I mean, it was put quite well that the original team ended the series on a high note, but there are still parts of it I would like to see redone with more modern...
Ok, take the cut scenes. Yes, it had them in 1993, heck, they had them in the 80s on the NES, so of course they had them on an early 90s 16-bit game. done in the style of a comic page. those that were not done with the game sprites, that is. I would like to see if they could be improved with increased memory limits.
Or take the 'Side Quests', you had the Hunters Guild, and then there was the Mail Boxes in each inn or shop. I felt at the time, and still do, that they might have had more planned for this part of the game.
Heck, it had a feature wherein you could 'Talk' to the party members, which was really more a way the player could remind themselves what they were trying to do right then. All the little things like that, which have a tendency to make me wonder if they might not have wanted to do more with the game.
Gauntlet: Dark Legacy
System: Various but Game Cube.
Why: I think Dark Legacy covered the classic Gantlet style with modern improvements such as toggle items. The areas were unique and fun and leveling up improved you so there was reason to replay to see what you could do next.
Second
Final Fantasy 9
System: PS
Why: Arguably the last FF game to use the classic turn based mechanics used for several games and being set in a more classic fantasy (knights and castles) world. Characters were endearing and unique and a lot was apparently left on the cutting room floor with some characters stories because of time constants. would be nice to see the game in it's final full form. And it would being Burmecians back to the public view.... Poor rats got the biggest middle finger I thin for FF races maybe only seconded by the Ronso.
As for cut content, I also disagree giving a lot of storylines just end of the supporting cast abruptly. There's a lot that could still be improved to the game as nothing is perfect, but it needs a careful hand to do it.
If so, God Hand on PS2. Why? It's frigging perfect. It's a beat em up with a customizable moveset that knows all too well how ridiculous it is, you kind of have to experience it to really understand why it's so awesome.
Another one would be Breath of Fire, also for the SNES. Decent game with fun ability to turn into a dragon and destroy enemies. *Nods matter of factly* A remake would give it a chance to be a much better game.
Besides that, which strikes me as the obvious, I'd say Maybe Gemfire (a more European/fantasy take on Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and considering how popular of a series that is if they gave it a system like RotTK8, 10, or 13 it could be amazing), or BaseWars (combat baseball with leveling up and upgrades), or maybe even Lufia and the Fortress of Doom.
It was a turn based rpg in a three dimension battlefield where the characters had DIRECTIONAL IMPUTS to attack foes like it was a fighting game. Each character's turn you'd fill a bar with button imputs and each imput could combo into an Art that could itself combo into more Arts or more advanced arts with the right sequences. Magic was basically obtained by fighting special monsters and beating them just right, catching them like it was Pokemon to summon as spells. Even to this day part of me thinks that game was my wildest fantasy, but it's real. The main characters were basically all martial artists wielding symbiotes created by God to make them superhumans because the first set of those symbiotes got corrupted by an artificial mist created by some crazy person for reasons I don't even remember! I would LOVE to see a remake of that game with the ONLY thing changed being upscaled graphics and maybe some extra party members since originally you only got 3 for the whole game. Would've loved to see some characters join our party for the long haul.
Seriously, if you're curious give it a try if you can find it. It's an underrated GEM that lives rent-free in my heart.
System Dreamcast
Why, it was truly an RPG Gem that a remake might help but a remaster is well deserved
I'd be happy with a re-release.

The game ahs been on every avalible console in the 90's
it has been gaining a wide appreciation nowadays. and many folks remember it very fondly.
though I doubt anyone would do anything about it.
Zone of Enders 1. PS3. I kinda liked it and wanted it to come back with 2 when it was remade and it hadn't. THe music was so soothing for the soul.
Xenosaga series. PS3. It was a enjoyable RPG, and I didnt get to finish it cause how often move. Amusing and transfering save files would reward you in later on games of it.
.hack series. PS2. If you want a MMORPG like game before SAO took the limelight, this was the game about it. Solving the mystery of The World, trying to save your friend and many other players who fell into a coma from the game, and is what lead to a legend in .hack G.U.
