I'm going to commit a Cardinal Sin

I'm going to have to warn you before you read this journal. This is the biggest hot take I've ever given in my life. More so than my politics or my opinions on Star Wars.

I really liked the HTTYD remake. I like it even better than the animated original. I'll let you catch your breath.
Ready? Okay. I'm pretty simple, and while I never disliked the original, I never had much of a personal connection to it like so many people. I think I was in High School when it was released. And I wasn't too into animated films at the time. And its been a long time since I've seen it since It came out. Plus I was never a fan of the animated art design. I never really liked 2010s DreamWorks. I mean, HTTYD is a good movie and series, considering that the remake is a shot-for-shot remake. But I think the "realism" serves the story better. I'm not a huge fan of Jay Baruchel's voice for Hiccup in the original. And I think the updated designs for the dragons and the setting are improved.
I'll say, if you love the movies and the IP. I don't think you'll find anything new in the remake. But if you're a first timer, I highly recommend it, especially in a really good theater (my ears are still ringing and dizzy from the wild ride). I'm not too familiar with the original, so I don't know what they took out or added in.

But very fair opinion, we've all got our likes and wants and preferences. I myself never read the books, or even watched the first movie except for the (iirc) fan-contested final one.
