The End of Funko?
I recently read a story on Dextro that Funko probably isn’t gonna last another year. Supposedly they have $250 million in debt, and sales of their products are still declining. There have also been problems with overproduction of their products combined with low demand. It doesn’t help that the orange fucktard decided to enact tariffs and make things more expensive. Admittedly I used to collect Funko Pops from 2013 to 2021. I never took them out of the box in the event of potentially selling them someday. I did plan on selling my Pops in 2024. It wasn’t until summer of this year when I finally got around to selling them to a couple of buyers on Facebook Marketplace. I’d say I made the right decision. Hell, I managed to sell $400 worth of stuff in a single day. Someone on Twitter said that most of the shit being sold at GameStop is Funko Pops. And yet, barely anyone is buying that stuff. It’s ironic that this story came out after Funko announced that they’re rolling out with Hazbin Hotel Pops. The Hazbin Hotel Pops are probably just another attempt for Funko to get consumers to buy their shit again, but it’s too late, and I can assure you that a lot of Helluverse fans are gonna pass. Someone else on Twitter suggested that Funko could make Helluva Boss Pops, but I personally would pass on those too in favor of Youtooz. I did say that it’s unlikely that Helluva Boss Pops would ever get made, and I would never get them despite how much I like the show. I’m not a Pop collector anymore, and I don’t regret selling my Pops. I heard that there was a Funko movie in development, but I don’t think it’s gonna be finished. Maybe someday after the company goes out of business, Bright Sun Films will probably make a Bankrupt episode about Funko. Hell, I’m pretty sure there’s already videos on YouTube documenting the rise and fall of Funko. I can guarantee you that other people are going to do what I did and sell their Pops. Supposedly Funko also made books, which I didn’t know about. It’s not like it matters because the company is almost done for. They also have Zootopia 2 Pops, but I’m gonna pass on those too despite the fact that I plan on seeing the movie. Funko used to be a billion dollar company, and now they’re probably not gonna last another year without additional funding or even an acquisition. I also criticized them in the past for the NFTs, destroying $36 million worth of shit, and even their half-assed collaboration with Skibidi Toilet. The Angry Video Game Nerd said it best: “what were they thinking?” That being said, I’m not gonna help save the company, but I do hope that the people working for Funko can find work elsewhere.
