He's been hacked?

no not hacked he was sent a virus from someone and opened it and it gets sent to everyone in his friends list. its a friends list virus.

it also gives one hell of a virus to yer computer. many have gotten it already

There are a few varieties of malware that can infect IM clients, and send messages (and thus, spread) through them.

I told him about it, and was going to text him...but, it's late there, so I left it to an "offline message".

Remember, just dont open a picture that something sends you called ".zip"...thats a given that it is not a picture, and in fact a virus.

Yeah, I did get this yesterday. Had another furry friend who is a computer whiz get it almost completly off. He is going to take another look at it one more time tomorrow to make sure he got all of it off.

IM virus' are probably my most hated kind since they can be quite annoying to others and quite easily spread if not careful. Sucks it happened to him and hope he gets it worked out quickly. <3

apparently its different cause he got it with a link. Someone else had a saying of like don't open this or something else and whatever else happened in it them thinking it was their friend posting a message before it was too late

When someone IMs you with a link right off the bat, i always respond with a "?" just to make sure it's really them sending it.

Yaa. I got that massage like 5 times in the past 10 hours........ I never open stuff like that.

Actually that happened to me. There are countless virus e-mails sending it to others on mail lists showing a link to something.

 magnusdiridian got it and it sent itself to my address book. I didn't open it but deleted it post haste.

usually when 3rd party places get access to someones account, they just gotta change their password. Its usually not a virus. Happened to me before.

No offense guys, but if this is the very same virus that I got messaged with, there's atleast 3 spots that one SHOULD realize something is up.

1) The URL itself is odd looking. A .info domain with a port number 89. Now that I don't expect everybody to get. But here's what's got me scratching my head:

2) The file that gets downloaded is a .zip file. They said "hey look at this pic" on a URL that's trying to make it look like facebook. Why would you be asked to download a .zip from facebook?

3) The .zip contains a .com file. It didn't even have much of a tricking name either "DFC-NewPicture0035.JPG_www.facebookgallery.com"

So those that have extensions turned off would see DFC-NewPicture0035.JPG_www.facebookgallery... that seems very weird IMO



Also I've been seeing a LOT of these virus/phishing things lately have been saying something about a "photo". Often "check out this photo I have of you" or something along those lines. THE BEST THING TO DO if you get a message out of the blue from somebody on a SINGLE line with a URL is ask them a question like "where is this from" BEFORE you click it. If they don't respond properly, then it's gotta be fake.

That and just look at the URL.
