Inking has long been my hated enemy.
My big, clumsy hands have been terrible at getting lines right the first time for... a long time. It's one of the biggest shaping factors in how I draw, and is the reason why my colored commissions are like double the price of the sketches- pretty much all just inking over the sketch.
Recently, however, I've discovered that coloring in my sketches is indeed an option! This cuts about 1/3rd of the time out of making a picture, and finally meets a compromise between the tight lines of my pencil sketches, and the bright colors of my digital work. I'm really sorely tempted, so why don't you tell me: If I offered colored sketches for say, $20, would you find that fair? Just five dolla mo'!
Additionally, I have to say... holy crap. Ask Doctor Gwen exploded in such a short time. Thankfully the initial rush is over and now she's just getting a nice, even flow of questions, but I really didn't expect it to get that big. Apparently this place really needed the function that she serves.

I'd definitely be interested in colored sketches, too! :3 Also, would you be up for trying out that RP we discussed before this weekend? :3
I'm still a tad too busy just yet. Gotta work on some things on the 'net and at home. Unfortunately.
You're surprised? Initial explosions are how an invasion is supposed to begin... To properly soften up defenses, eliminate key installations...
And twenty dollar colored sketches would be cool, now that I have a paypal. Dangerous, isn't it?
TL; DR
What?
scan document -> fuck with contrast endlessly -> carefully hand-color on multiply layer
I can erase far more delicately than I can ink.
You can use the magic wand tool (available in photoshop/paint.net/most other big graphics suites) and select the black lines you drew.
Red and blue lines from the paper (if you used notebook paper) will not be selected.
The white space is too far away from black and will not be selected.
You'd generally click on the magic wand and select a "tolerance" of 25%. Click one time on the black lines. You may have to click a few more times to select "islands", or lines that aren't connected to anything else, for example the eyes (depending on the angle that you've drawn everything).
Once you select the black lines, paste them into a new layer. Now you have two layers, your "background", or starting document which contains everything, and layer2, a separate layer which contains only the black lines you selected and made into a layer.
From that point, click the "visibility" button of the background layer to make it not drawn, reduce it's layer opacity to 0, or simply delete it.
Your lines are now the only thing that's left. For the "ink" look, adjust the contrast as you suggested, which will only affect the black lines of course. No need to manually erase anything or mess with contrast for a while to "find the right setting".
Also, I think you could pump out some pretty good commissions. Makes me wish I could still afford one...
And Dr. Gwen? I think that was a fantastic idea. Everyone needs some advice at some time, being able to do it anonymously about really touchy subjects at times isn't always easy to come by. -Give her a hug for me ^^
Aww. I'll make sure the doctor gets her daily dose of hugs. :)
